I was looking to find a thread on "chancing" for UCLA but couldn't seem to find it so here we go. I know essays and EC stuff matter too but the UCLA rep told me that mostly they care about GPA so I'm gonna keep it simple, you could follow this format:

GPA: 3.6
Major: Sociology
TAP: yes
Pre Reqs: 3 are done, and the last one will be completed this semester
Other UC's you have already been accepted/denied: Accepted to UCI, UCSB,UCSD

You’re borderline, but the TAP could push you to the accepted group… There’s really no way of accurately chancing you. I’d be optimistic, though, if I were you. :)

Yeah… Sorry… It’s just so hard to chance people that aren’t shoe-ins. Just try to hang in there… Admissions are coming… Keep yourself busy, focus on your studies, and stuff like that to get your mind off things. :)

And keep in mind that you made a very good decision by joining TAP. :)

BTW, are you an SMC student by any chance? I’m not saying that SMC students face a higher rate of acceptance or anything… But UCLA has done studies that show SMC students have the highest average UCLA GPA after transferring. So, because there is a qualitative element to admissions… TAP+SMC=Good.

I appreciatee the advicee but it’s sooo hard to focus lol I’m really worried. Ya, if I didn’t do TAP then my chances would be soo much less considering that the average GPA admitted to Ucla as a Sociology major is a 3.7. & no I don’t go to SMC. I go to Pierce though, and I know Pierce also has a high transfer rate to UCLA, although not as high as SMC.

@ nilzz: I think you’re definitely in with TAP. You have strong grades and TAP - I would be shocked if you were rejected. I would absolutely think optimistically.

It’s a program that certain CCs have for students who want priority admission to UCLA. It allows you to have an alternate major, too, which they consider if you are rejected from your first choice. The requirements for TAP vary by community college, though. If you guys do have it, there should be a scholars/honors office at your school.
