chance for UC's and others: updated version

hoy hoy!!!!!

summer has passed, i learned of my new grades, and i think i am off to a fresh start. :) Is it possible to chance me, esp. at a time when fewer spaces for those colleges are available?

you have a decent chance if you manage to hide your previous SAT scores using the new collegeboard system. Aim for a 2200+ for SAT I

yea, i admit the UC’s might be reaches for me.

what if i improved my SAT’s to:

SAT I’s: 2000
SAT II’s:
-Biology: 650
-Math II: 650
-US History: 700

That D in AP Physics B is a killer.

I’m not sure if UCs take into account that you took a JC Physics course to replace the grade you got in that class.

One more thing, Unweighted GPA shouldn’t have that big of a jump in conversion to UC GPA.

Sorry if I sound negative but when I want to know my chances I want reality. :p

Only thing you can do now is increase those community service hours, and test scores.

^ i realize. and i realize that D may cost me any admissions to any of the UC’s… especially in times like right now. :(

Now i just want to get into ANY UC: so that i have a “good start” when it comes time for applying to grad schools at the end of your undergrad education.

I heard that it is hard to get into any stellar grad school (i.e. stanford or yale) even if you excel in your undergrad educationin, say, from a CSU.

I think you have a good chance at the “lower” UCs like UCR, but if u really want to go to say Berkeley or UCLA, then go to CC and do TAG.

nah, i do not seek to go into UCB or UCLA as a freshmen. I blew that chance my junior year. :(

as a grad student, i’d definitely apply there… in fact, i would praise allah (or god or fate :P) if i get into UCR or UCSC or UCSB…

and what is the meaning of “TAG”???

That D in Physics is a killer. I think you have a chance at UCI and UCSB though. Those schools are not hard to get in.
TAG is Transfer Admission Guarantee from CC to 4 year University

Yeah, I didn’t mean that you should go in as a freshman. Instead, transfer in as a rising junior after two years of community college. This will allow you time to mature and catch up to those admitted to UCB/UCLA as freshmen.

got a rather thick packet from the UC system today… said I was elgible and guaranteed admission to A UC school based on statewide (not local) eligibility context.

is it fo sho guaranteed? is it something i should be happy of or be leery of??

You have a shot at UCSC, and you will get into UCR, and UCM. Other’s are a little off.

Yes, if you meet the requirements, you are guaranteed a UC school which will probably end up being UCR or UCM. Like I said in an earlier post, you can get into some of the “lower” UCs. It’s up to you to decide whether to go there or do TAG. I would apply to the mid-low UCs, see if I liked the schools, and then either go to the one I like the most or go to CC and do TAG.

Sat ii subject tests of November 2009:

Biology E: 610
Math IIC: 560.

which makes my two highest sat subject scores 680 (US history) and 610 (Biology E)

Will take SAT I in a week. Aiming, at a bare minimum, 1900, up from 1780. Hopefully, I get more than 2000.

these are the top two choices now:

UC Irvine, UC Davis

add in: University of Pacific, University of Redlands, Chapman University.

Drop Occidental, maybe. (I was flirting with the idea of going to Occidental. lol But hey! to go to the same school Obama went would be interesting…)

For those of you curious to how I went: (And to use this thread as a very rough “gauge” to where i got in and what:)

GOT ACCEPTED:
CSU Northridge- photojournalism (haha, i know.)
University of Pacific-exploratory program.
University of Redlands-Undeclared.
UC Riverside-Undeclared, humanities or somethin
UC Santa Cruz-undeclared, humanities/arts or something.

REJECTED:

UCLA
UC San Diego
UC Irvine (welp)
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

my admission got canceled from Cal Poly Pomona. . .they said i didnt send an official receipt of all my sat scores or something of that nature. (hell, i received no notification of pomona wanting that receipt.) so i said, f___ you CP Pomona.

still waiting:
UC Santa Barbara (Really want to go there now, I am scared, since their decisions are tomorrow.)
UC Davis.

Still waiting but really don’t care: CSU Long Beach, Fullerton, Chapman University.

Any body know what the University of Redlands is known for?

And, a sincere, extended thank you to all who have put an input into my chances. really, you guys have kept my hopes up and kept me working at it for the colleges.
