Chance for UCSD Bioengineering? I'll Chance Back!

Hey guys, the school I really want to go to is UCSD for bioengineering. It'd be great if you could chance me! I'll try to chance back if you want!

My UC weighted GPA is a 4.1, uncapped weighted: 4.3, unweighted: 3.79
(Very challenging course rigor: 5 APs in 10-11 grade, 6 weighted courses. I would have taken more APs but my school does not offer them to freshmen and sophomores. I only got to take Honors PreCalc and AP stats in 10th grade because I skipped a grade in math)

SAT I: 780 M, 680 CR, 790 W (2250 total), SAT II Math-770, SAT II Bio-740

Extracurriculars (weak) :
1. Summer internship in office for city
2. 3 years volunteering at library working with kids
3. religious service club out of school
4. culture camp organization outside of school
5. Key Club
6. Leo Club
7. some science clubs
8. 4 years of youth summer leadership program
9. California orchestra (2 years)
10. private tutor (1 summer)
11. hospital volunteer
12. Basketball club out of school

Other factors:
1. California resident
2. Family income around 120,000 a year
3. The high school i go to was ranked within top 20 public schools in nation.

Please chance me for UCSD. I know that their biology/bioengineering programs are much more competitive. I'll be happy to chance back if you want. Thanks in advance!

Bummmpppp!!!

Almost positive you’re going to get into UCSD… The only factors that are holding you back are the lack of ECs completely focused on engineering (research and what not) and your GPA. Besides that, your in-state and your test scores are great, I believe you’ve got a great shot. :D

Chance me back?

I think you’re a really competitive applicant plus you’re instate. You definitely have a really good chance.

I think you have a really good chance! UCSD would be a match school for you. The only think that’s holding you back is your lack of EC, but with your stellar SATs I don’t think you need to worry.

I don’t think the OP is that qualified, many applicants in the 2200 ranges have been rejected. Your E.C lack any central focus( academic, athletic, artistic…?) and that will not help your case. You can count on getting into one of the 3 top UC’s, but you could very much fall short of all three. Apply broadly.

You definitley have a high chance!

Bump! I’ll chance back!

Great scores, solid grades, and in-state-- I think you have ~60-70% chance, and I certainly wish you the best!

you’re going to be fine. I got in with way lower SAT stats.

Bummpp!!! By the way, I have a big upward trend going on starting in first semester sophomore year. Will that help my case? Also, how much would a summer research program have helped my app?

I think you have a really good chance, your gpa is really good and so are your test scores, I wouldn’t worry about extra curriculars, please chance me back :)

I think you will get in, probably 75% chance. Go win a competition with an engineering project, then make that 85-90%.
You don’t have any weak part of your application, everything seems pretty strong.
Chance back? :)

UCSD is definitely possible. GPA is hella good and SAT scores are are definitely at top notch. Try for UCLA and UC Berkeley. I think UC San Diego is definitely a match for you. Plus Extracurriculars are great.
Chance back??:)

I think all here are ignoring how competitive BME is at SD. This is jot like getting in as an English major. That said, you have a reasonable shot.

You have an averge/high average GPA for UCs and your SAT scores are very good. You should be able to get into UCSD.

Please Chance me back!

Bummmp! Thanks guys! Merry Christmas!

Hi,

I graduated from UCSD in the pure BE major. For kicks, I’m just looking back at what it’s like to apply. I think your grades and activities are great. But many of my classmates in UCSD BE did a lot of health / science and engineering related activities. For one, I volunteered at a hospital for two summers and did a biomedical science summer program. My classmates did similar things.

So yeah, combination of grades like yours + extracurriculars in science and engineering (research should help the most) is what i’d summarize as best chances for getting in.

I think you have a pretty good chance to get in. Not a completely sure thing because of just how competitive Bioengineering is, but I really think you should be fine.

I think you have a great chance. I do not know much about the school, but your GPA and test scores are great! I think you’ll definitely be able to get in. Mine please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1269123-chances-uchicago.html
