Freshman year I failed US government (1 semester class) and attended summer school to make up for it. I failed with a 60, passed with an 85, so it averages to a 73.

How badly will this look to colleges that I apply for? The college I really want to attend is University of Georgia. I'm currently a rising junior.

Other than that my states are also pretty bad:

9th Grade GPA: 3 UW, 3.2 W
10th Grade GPA: 3.1 UW, 3.4 W
2200 SAT (first time)

I haven't taken the ACT yet. I'm taking AP Stat, Comp Sci and Lang, Honors Pre Calc and regular Physics/US History. Senior year I plan on taking AP Mac/Mic Econ, AP Lit, AP Calc (not sure if B/C or A/B) and AP Psychology.

My EC's are weak as of now. Junior year I'll join FBLA and get a job, work 10+ hrs a week, and volunteer whenever I can. After some math a good underestimate would be: 150 hrs working a job, 100+ hrs volunteer work.

I really screwed up fresh/soph because of family issues, but I can't let that be an excuse. Assuming I retake the SAT and get a better score, score a 33+ on the ACT (consistently got 32+ on practice tests), get A/B's for my AP classes and A's on the other classes, how are my chances for UGA with a failed class?

Also is it possible for me to talk to my counselor to remove the failed class off my record?
