Chance for UIUC Engineering EA and Northwestern ED

Applied a couple of days ago to Computer Engineering and Computer Science for UIUC, and McCormick for NU.

In State
Asian Male
GPA: 3.56 UW/ 4.095 W Huge upward trend, if that matters. Almost all Honors/AP
ACT: 31 Composite, retook, hopefully a higher score (33 English, 35 Math, 28 Reading, 27 Science, Writing 8) <--Not too good with the second half, as you can see...
SAT II: Math II-750, retook, hopefully a higher score
Senior Year Courseload: AP Calc AB, AP Physics C, AP Stats, AP Chem, AP English

ECs- Don't think they matter too much for UIUC
High School Swim Team, 4 year varsity letter, senior year captain, team records, various awards, etc
6 Years Club Swimming, 2 different clubs, various team records, awards, etc
Girls High School Swim Team Manager- Senior Year
Law Club, Junior/Senior Year. Co-President Senior Year
Habitat for Humanity- 20hrs
Chinese School tutor/TA-100 hrs
Library Volunteer-35 hrs

Essays: I liked them, overall 8-9/10. Why NU was specific.

Recs (for NU): All should be pretty good

Other Schools I might apply to
UC Berkeley
Case Western (applied)
UIC (Maybe)
Cornell (Maybe)

Alright CC, how's it looking?

Also have work experience at a grocery store 11hours/week

work experience means nothing dude.
i think NU is a 3/10… sorry for bursting the bubble
but uiuc, you’re in!

chance me!

Yeah, NU is gonna be a stretch, but defs worth a shot in my opinion. Thanks for the input. Anyone else?

Don’t know enough about UIUC but I think you have a good chance at Northwestern, though i’d imagine that a lot of people with similar stats and ec’s as you apply to NU. Try to set yourself apart…

The upward trend is good – they like to see improvement. Hey i think the work experience itself is alright, but maybe if you can get a recommendation from your manager or someone who oversaw you that would be awesome.

Best of luck to you

You need to be ready to apply for a college if you don’t get into uiuc because no other colleges on your list are dependable.

^i second him

Thanks guys. @wallrus, UIUC is kind of a backup. I know that I’ve got a pretty good shot for engineering, but they admit you into DGS (undecided) if you don’t make it into your first choice of major and your stats are good enough. That being said, I actually wouldn’t mind going to UIUC at all, they’ve got an amazing engineering program, and it would probably be cheaper. I might apply to UIC and minnesota as like SUPER backups though. Anyone else able to offer some insight?
