Chance for UMiami?? (WILL Chance back) very desperate

I’m OOS but i don’t think that really matters seeing as its private. Umiami is one of my reach schools, i was even about to take it off my college list but i just wanted to make sure I had at least a decent shot at getting in, which according to the posters I do. Also I’m taking the ACT now instead of the SAT. But once again thank you for your informative post.

Will getting a 5 on my psychology AP help me get into the psychology major easier?

“While I was reading your stats, and thinking like an admission officer, I just can’t help but question if you have the ability to do the work in college because of you low SAT score.”

That makes NO sense. Questioning the ability to do the work should come form your cumulative GPA in class room settings over multiple subject areas. If anything, the low GPA should suggest that, not test scores.

And a 5 on an AP test won’t hurt per say, but general consensus on this forum seems to be that AP scores are 99% used for placement once admitted, and not for admissions sake.

SATs are much different than theACT but the guy is right about being fairly close. I made a 25 on my ACT and a 1200 (Math and Verbal only) on my SAT. And a conversion chart said I’d make a 26 if I took the ACT. Which is almost what I got. But Practice makes perfect. And you have a long way until then, so just practice at it and I’m sure you’ll make 28+ for sure.

I say you have a good chance if you get your ACT above a 27 or 28 or so. You look pretty set for EC’s. The upward trend will help. But then again a 2.8 is really low. Nevertheless a 3.8 junior year is pretty good. You seen to have gotten quite a few awards so I think you have an above average chance with the prediction of a 30 ACT.

I have a 3.1 unweighted btw.

If you raise your standard test scores you’ll be fine

If you can get your ACT to a 30 then your in.

Your ECs/awards look pretty good. However, for the ECs, I hope that you have leadership positions in some of your clubs, especially the ones you’ve been in the longest. Upward trend in GPA is very important. The only thing that could hurt you now is your very low freshman year grade. However, I think upward trend will be very favorable in your case.

The one thing you should work on to ensure that you get into UMiami (because as it is you already have a good chance) is your SAT score. Bring it up a couple hundred points and I think you’re set.

Good luck! chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1303604-early-decision-chances.html</a></p>

Everything’s good, just make sure you ace your ACT score and you’ll be good  chance me please too!!

I’ve seen people that aren’t as qualified as you and they get into UM. If anything I’d raise your SAT score and aim high for the ACT.

The steady rise in your GPA is impressive. Keep it up for your first semester too!

P.S. Keep in mind what you put for intended major. For certain majors it will be much more competitive than others. For instance at UM Pre-Med will be extremely competitive.

I’m thinking of going undecided but if not I’m probably going to be majoring in either Psychology or History and then try to switch into something more desirable(when i’m at the college that is). Will this help or hurt me?

O yea should i apply early or regular???

I’d say that your best bet is to show the adcoms who you are with a great essay! Write about something that really matters to you. Whether you can make a meaningful essay about the bullying and how you dealt with it, or if you’re immersed in your Nigerian culture, make it something where you come across as a passionate person for whatever you choose to write about. Your GPA will hurt you a bit but it’s great that you’ve been able to raise it with each year! Work on that ACT and I think that you’ll have a good chance. (: The mid 50% for UM is 28-32, so aim for a score in that range!

Your scores are a disadvantage, as others have said, but your upward GPA trend looks really good. Definitely try your best on the ACT and study really hard. Write powerful essays and use a lot of pathos if possible. Good luck!

I think you can get in umiami just make sure you get your ACT score around 30

If you raise your ACT to over a 31, you have as good of a chance as any. Also make sure to mention your experience as a freshman and maybe how it made you stronger and more motivated? Of course, just work on getting top grades this year. Good luck!
Thanks for chancing me, by the way!! :)

Everything is great. Colleges love the improvement trend that you have shown since 9th grade. As you already know, the SAT scores are pretty weak, but taking the ACT may help. I speculate a 60% chance of being accepted. A suggestion: Ask a recommendation from a teacher that you have taken twice, and has seen you grown. If not, its ok just ask for strong recs. Also, do GREAT senior year and I am sure you will be accepted. Chance me back please and good luck! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1366605-boston-college-transfer.html</a></p>

If you do well on your ACT i think you have a pretty good chance of getting in. Your EC’s are really good and the upward trend helps a lot. Just try to keep up/bump up your GPA senior year.
