Chance for UMich, Wesleyan, Vassar, Cornell and U of Richmond? Will chance back.

OOS for UMich

UW GPA 3.8
Upward trend i.e. Fr: 3.6 Soph: 3.7 Junior: 4.0

URM, African American

I've taken all of the advance classes available to me.
EVERY SINGLE ONE. except for like acc spanish..because i take french...

Fr: Honors English/Honors World Studies/ I also started French 2 as a freshman if that counts as rigor?
Soph: Honors English/AP European History/Advanced College Credit French 3
Junior: Advanced College Credit US History/Advanced College Credit French 4

Next years course load
ACC Lit and Composition
AP Bio
AP Stats
AP Calc
ACC French 5 (Only student)
Economics/American Film Studies

ACT: 31 (Super score 32)

My recommendations will be flawless btw.
To give some sort of reference, i was in my guidance counselor's office and she told me she thought that my high school had won the lottery by getting to have me as a student.

My essay is about being raised by lesbians and how it's affected me in my acceptance of my family and of myself.

Extra curriculars:

Tennis 4 years (JV for 2, Varsity for 2)
French Club 4 years (Club President next year)
JSA (2 years) / Youth in Government (2 years)
Sophomore Class Council Representative / Senior Class Treasurer
Drama Club/Plays (4 years)
Scholar Bowl Varsity Team (2 years)
Model UN Club President

*some ECs end at 2 years because i transferred schools between sophomore and junior year so it's not quite as scattered as it seems. my new school didn't have the ECs my old school did.

Volunteering

200 + Volunteer hours at a pediatric hospital and a regular hospital

Hey. I’m sort of new here as I rarely log on, but I am familiar with chancing people. However, you should not take my guesses as reliable haha. Anyways,
UMich - Match
Wesleyan - Low Reach
Vassar - Low Reach
Cornell - High Reach
U of Richmond - Match

Again, you should NOT take my guesses seriously at all. I believe your EC’s will most likely make those low reach into reach. Having a high rank would help a lot, too. Oh, and I keep hearing this: be sure to write outstanding essays that will captivate the admissions officers!! That’s one of the keys into getting into schools you think are hard for you to get into. Chance me back if you have time  .

While you’re an amazing candidate for all the universities you listed, I still think you should consider Cornell a reach because of their low acceptance percentile of applicants. The other universities you should have an excellent shot at being accepted. They should mostly be match schools but I think Umich could be a safety if financially secure.

bumpppppp

Match for all, maybe high match low reach for Cornell. EA would help, coupled with the fact your grades are excellent, EC’s are good, and being URM. Test scores are average for Cornell, if possible, raise it. Looks good though.

Interesting essay btw.

bump

UMich is no safety for anyone. URM does help a bit and make it a high match to low reach for you. Michigan has banned affirmative act in admission though.

While your story is interesting, your ECs are good, and you are taking the most rigorous course load available, your ACT score is not outstanding. Are you planning on retaking it/taking the SAT and subject tests? Cornell is still a reach for you (which college are you applying to within Cornell? That affects your chances as well). Vassar is also pretty selective and I would say may be a reach. I was waitlisted RD and my best friend was rejected ED from vassar but both of us got into Cornell. So don’t assume Vassar is a cakewalk!

Wesleyan - Match
Vassar - Match
Cornell - Reach
U of Richmond - Match
Umich - Match

I think you have a good shot at all of the schools and I hope I can do as well on my act as you did. Thanks for chancing me! Good luck!

All besides Cornell are matches. You have a good chance at all the schools on your list. Your EC’s are very good, and your essay seems very compelling. Best of luck!

Chance me back (fellow African-American): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662008-2-8-gpa-2000-first-time-sat-urm-umass-amherst-others-ea.html#latest

bumpppp

Your application looks decent, except the standardized test scores are just a little (not very) low. If recommend taking the ACT, or even practicing for the SAT. I know that some schools will require subject tests with the SAT, but it still has the potential to be your better test. Just practice for it! Here are my best predictions

Wesleyan - Match/high Match
Vassar - Match/high Match (both are pretty competitive)
Cornell - Low Reach
U of Richmond - Low Match
Umich - Match

Good luck! Chance me back:

could anyone also tell me if syracuse u is a safety or more of a match for me?

^^ bump

I would say Syracuse is a safety or maybe a low match for you

Thanks for chancing me! You’ve got a good transcript, great extracurriculars, and last but not least a hook. Your essay sounds really unique and interesting. Only part that’s not up to par is test scores but a 31 is still good enough for all of the schools you mentioned.

Wesleyan - High Match
Vassar - High Match
Cornell - Low Reach/High Match
U of Richmond - Match
UMich - Match
Syracuse - Low Match

Assuming this list is comprehensive, think about applying to more schools. Admissions is like a lottery, and the more tickets you enter the bigger chance you have of winning. Throw in a few more reaches if you think you’ll be able to write all the essays.

@PMLAPA‌ it’s not my full list. but thank you for your help

Apply ED to cornell and I’d call it a match: only retake act if you can get around a 33, maybe try sat (again if you can get about 2200).
