LOR from my NJROTC instructor was Very Good, in my opinion. I also feel like my essays were fairly solid.

I really appreciate any help you all can provide. Thanks so much!

class rank?

Not great, 22%. 77/360 or similar.

I’d say it’s hard to tell.Test score is really good but class rank, GPA, and rigor of courses might hinder.

Bump

Only 0.5% of their student population had a class rank that low and they were most likely recruited athletes. It’s best for you to make a Plan B.

2.6% had a class rank below 30%. 3.7% of the Fall 2017 class had a class rank below 20% but above 30%, 15.8% had a class rank similar to my current one, which has improved a bit.(~18% / 62/348). Obviously still not terrific odds but it’s a fair piece better than 0.5%, especially given my EC’s, test score, demographic, etc.
I won’t give up hope yet.

I am sorry. I meant to put 5%, not .5. Regardless your chances are very slim. My IS legacy child was denied EA, with a 1350, right around top 20%, Varsity Sports, Leadership, NHS, Congressional Youth Award, etc. Both AP English teachers said his essays were excellent. I hope for your sake I am wrong, but you are asking for opinions, and it is my opinion that you will not get in. I know of many people with much higher stats that were deferred and also hoping for Admission this round.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your race/ethnicity? That certainly will play a big part somewhere like UNC.

My daughter (IS large public not magnet) EA classmates that were accepted were Junior Marshals. Magnet and IB schools tend to accept more students accepted. In general, accepted students were top 5-10% in the class. When I went there it was also top 10% were typically admitted. ECs of accepted students really did not matter, neither did race. For instate it was class rank and SAT/ACT. GPAs are all over the place even within the same county system, a high school a few miles away has much lower GPAs based on when you could take AP classes.

@rphx2nc That high school may be an anomaly, but for a place like UNC race certainly plays a factor. They have been seeking to increase African-American and Asian enrollment at the school the past few years, especially for the male gender as females dominate males.
