Chance for URM student

Hello, I'm a Senior at a public high school in the state of Michigan, and Columbia is my very first choice. I am Hispanic, and will be applying Early Decision. I was wondering whether being an URM would affect my chances. Any help/insight/advice/comments is appreciated!

I love Columbia, and I'd love to attend. But I have no idea if I'm "Columbia material," so I'd love any input from you guys.

Thanks in advance.

I think you’ve got a great chance! The only thing you could possibly do to raise your chance is retake the SAT, and chances are you’ll score higher. Just make sure you shine in your essays and recommendations and you should be fine. Good luck!!!

Hey thanks! Yeah, I think I’m gonna retake the ACT though. I’m better at it than the SAT.

I really hope I get in.

Bump. More input is always welcome. Thanks in advance :)

Ditch SAT, and go with ACT

what’s URM?

Thanks for the replies. If anyone else has any input it’d be much appreciated, thanks.

Columbia RD admission rate is abysmal. As an URM, good chance with ED. If your intended major is English, I suspect you need to retake SAT II literature.

You seem to have done well in APs. So why is your rank only top 25%?

Should I retake lit? I got a 5 on English language and composition, so would it be necessary to retake the SAT II?

And the 25% is an estimate. My school doesn’t rank so I don’t know my precise rank.

Thanks though!

Any more input would be very much appreciated!

For an english major, you do need a good english score and I don’t know if Columbia is a school that requires you to submit all scores for all tests if you take them.

True that. Thanks for the insight! :)

Bump 10char.

So what is URM?

Underrepresented Minority. I’m hispanic.

Columbia requires all scores from all College Board tests, so I would consider retaking it.
