Chance for USC Transfer

Hi all, so I've applied to various UC's and 1 CSU, but I couldn't help but feel that I should try for USC as well - it couldn't hurt right? (or maybe it can). However, since I tried to follow IGETC, I don't really meet a lot of the GE requirements. Currently, I meet the English requirement that can be fulfilled at a community college, I meet the math requirement having taken pre-calculus, but as for everything else, I haven't met much. My English 207 literature course apparently meets the section called Arts & Letters while my sociology class meets the diversity section, but all other GE courses I took for IGETC don't seem to match up with USC. I currently have about 36 units completed and even though I'm going to be taking winter classes and the maximum amount of units for spring, there's no way I'll reach 64 units.

As for other info, I do currently have a 4.0 GPA, but not a junior level amount of units (as I've mentioned). I mainly focused on a bunch of computer science courses and most of them seem to transfer, but I have little to no clue if they might actually help me meet a lower division requirement or two for that major; I pretty much doubt it, but the course info for an intro programming course almost exactly matches the syllabus of a C++ course I took, so it would be awesome if that matched up.

Some more info: I don't have much in terms of extracurricular activities, but I do have one though. I volunteer at LAC USC Medical Center (with varying hours though). I can sometimes be there for quite awhile (my record is 8 hours) and I've made friends with a bunch of the staff - mainly fun loud Mexicans like me. Other than that, I don't participate in much. I wanted to join a club, but I was just too shy to do so.

As for high school, here's a rather scary part that makes me think I have no shot. I dropped out before the 10th grade. My transcript has almost no courses on it because I didn't exactly have a long high school career. I have my GED, but my high school transcript basically just has:
Biology
English
Spanish 1
Health
Gym
Geometry
...and that's it.

Thanks for any help and I can give more info if need. Oh and since I didn't mention it, I'm attempting to transfer from East Los Angeles College.

For USC, competitive applicants have more than 30 credits upon transferring. So you’d be considered competitive - don’t worry about having 60+ credits or what not.

I’m not sure how the GED/lack of coursework from HS should affect you. I know that when transfer have a substantial amount of credits to transfer, USC definitely takes into account your performance in these classes. Therefore, I don’t think the lack of HS coursework should influence your admissions too greatly.

Congrats on the 4.0 GPA - thats a great accomplishment. Good luck!

USC considers homeschooled applicants, and those students from alternative educational environments so I wouldn’t worry too much on the GED. The only thing to focus on is letting them see how you’d contribute to campus culture, how well you can master their academic load (i.e. grades on current coursework), etc. One thing I’ve observed is that the students they accept aren’t “cookie” cutter and don’t necessarily reflect the average “stats.” Just do your best, and hope for the best. There’s no magic formula for how to get in.
