Chance for UVA

<p>As of right now this year I am in the top 15% of my class and just got in to English National Honor Society. I find out about Spanish National Honor Society this week but my teacher said I have really good chances. I am also waiting to hear on NHS.
I am currently an IB Diploma student candidate. My school is funny with GPAs and I don't know mine but my semester averages in my classes were (IB classes this is unweighted): 89 in IB English HL
87 in IB History HL
83 in IB psychology SL
92 in pre calc
94 in IB Environmental SL
94 in IB Spanish HL
99 in music appreciation
91 in gym
My grades in most classes have been improving
At the end of my sophomore year my weighted GPA was a 90.1 but will go up a lot with my IB classes.
My sat scores are kind of low with a 550 in CR 620 in math and 570 in writing. I am retaking this month along with the act. Planning on taking math 2 and lit or Spanish subject test in the fall.
Currently I am in environmental club (10-11), future educators association (10-11, vp this year and was elected president for next year), council on human relations (10-11, has a weird system of leadership but I have been in a position every year), theater company (9), key club (10-11), been on 5 mission trips since the summer of 8th grade to west Virginia, new York, Vermont, and the Dominican republic twice, 4th and 5th grade youth group leader (9-11), Concordia youth chorale (7-11, basically have quit, have sung in places like Carnegie hall, Lincoln center, and st John the divine), vice president of the north Atlantic region for future educators association, summer of 9th grade helped at my churches summer music camp, volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house (11), peer tutor (11), orchestra (9-10), relay for life team captain (10), crop hunger walk (8-11), summer pre college program at drew university, Princeton university, and bryn mawr college called summer institute for the gifted (6-11), volunteer at christian sports camp (10-11) I know I do a lot, sorry!
I am a female from new jersey
Any advice or chances would be amazing!</p>

<p>Although the average GPA in the freshmen profile is pretty high, UVA doesn’t look at the magnitude of your GPA. What matters is what you have gotten from which class.
Your extracurriculars look good, but if I were you, I would spend all my free time studying for SATs and ACTs. Also I would take every SAT and ACT from now on until Fabruary (January is the last month that is accepted by UVA).
I don’t want to discourage you (UVA is a better-than-awesome school), but why do you want to go to UVA when you have a chance like Rutgers? UVA is really stringent when it comes to candidates from out of state :(</p>

<p>

Taking a test (or two) every single month without the ability to see your scores and redirect study efforts can be counter productive. Studying over the summer and testing in October (there is no Sept. SAT) and again in December if necessary is more realistic. The OP probably has to fit in SAT 2’s here as well. Most students can benefit from taking both the SAT and ACT at least once to see which format they naturally do better on. From there focus on that single format. Preparing for both at the same time, and continually testing for both, is really not a good strategy for most students as they are much different tests.</p>

<p>

The application deadline is 1/1, including test scores. The early December test date usually releases late December making it the last date that will make it there on time. Technically you can send scores past this date, however your application will be incomplete without them and will not be read. If you send new scores after 1/1 (meaning your app was complete with scores on 1/1, moved to read, then you send new scores), there is no guarantee that your application will not be read with the first set of scores before the new scores catch up to the file. The amount of data that is sent in late December through January is staggering. The point is, have your application fully complete as you want it read on (or before) 1/1.</p>

<p>Get those standardized test scores up and best of luck! Out of state admissions is not easy, but hopefully I’ll see ya on campus next year.</p>

<p>Bump please!</p>

<p>Bump bump!!</p>

<p>UVa is a reach for both of us…check out my chance thread titled “Cornell, UVa etc.” to see my stats. OOS is very competitive, but apply if you love the school.</p>

<p>I think u need to raise ur SAT scores. Then, ull have a great shot!
