Vanderbilt University- Will ED help my chances any???
I've visited both, and I am planning on visiting a few more times over the summer.
(These are my top choice schools. All of my safeties are state schools)

As of now, I'm thinking about majoring in ChemE or another type of science/engineering.
If you need any more information, please let me know!
(I will chance back)

I think you have a really good chance at either of those schools. You seem very well-rounded but you also appear to know where you are headed. Both of these schools would be happy to have you. You might even want to try and aim slightly higher.

I think you could even try applying ED to a school that is ranked in the top 10 and see what happens.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I’m just nervous that my ECs have too much breadth and not enough depth. Also, I have chanced you back.

Georgia Tech: match, but do not apply for engineering, apply as an undecided
Vanderbilt: high match

Vanderbilt is 88% OOS, so that’s good for you. Georgia Tech is 29% OOS, which isn’t that bad.

Vanderbilt Acceptance rate for ED is 22%, RD is 13%

Georgia Tech acceptance rate for EA is 56%, RD is 41%

@Nflpackers96 Thank you for the advice! I have chanced you back.

I think your chances at Georgia Tech are very strong - low match, safety. It is more than likely you will be admitted
I think Vanderbilt is more your speed - low reach, high match. Good luck, keep working hard!!

Without your unweighted GPA its hard to determine, but with your ACT scores, you could get in. I’d be a little apprehensive about putting all of those extracurricular activities on your transcript just because some look a little all over the place. If you put them all on, then reference the ones that you have been extremely active in as a part of your essays. For Georgia Tech, I think that being OOS could actually help you! very good school and a great match with your accolades. My Access College Advisor went to Vanderbilt and had lower requisites than you- yours are much better (he was an athlete too though lol). Nonetheless, I think you have great chances at both schools!

@d0texe‌ Thank you very much for your input!

@mererosearn‌ I’m actually not completely sure about my uwGPA, but it should be close to me weighted because my school does not weight heavily. Also, thank you for your advice on the ECs, I’ll only mentioning the ones that have heavily impacted me instead of the laundry list here.

@Nflpackers96

Georgia Tech just switched to the common app and had the lowest acceptance rate in its history. EA was around 40%, RD was around 20%, and the overall was around 30%. The average SAT was a 2183 and average ACT was 33. Also, GT does not look at your major when you apply.

@mererosearn‌

Begin out of state will not help you- with the switch to the common app, the acceptance rate for OOS students drastically fell.

@avogadro6022

My perspective is that you would be a match, but that ACT math is something you should worry about for Georgia Tech. Whatever you do, don’t underestimate GT- each year the acceptance rate has dropped 10% with this year’s acceptance rate being around 30%. I know a people who had and ACT of 35 or SAT of 2300 who ended up being waitlisted. I had a GPA of 4.1 and an SAT of 2150, and was deferred but accepted RD.

@May2013SAT‌ I heard about the switch to the Common App, and it makes me very nervous because I feel like it will become a “safety” for over qualified students applying to top-teir schools. Also, do you think a good record in math on my transcript will help balance out the 30 (I’ve taken the highest available at my school and have done well)? Thank you for the information!

I think you have good chances at Vanderbilt and you should expect acceptance to Georgia Institute of Technology. Good luck!

Match for GT and high match for VB (match if ed) if you could get the act math score to a 33+ I’d say definitely in at both and maybe aim higher. But nothing is ever 100%

@avogadro6022

The only things I know about math at GT is:

A score below 700 on SAT math will usually (not all the time) get you deferred/rejected

Not taking calculus if it was offered will usually get you deferred/rejected

Georgia Tech admissions were a little weird at my high school though because of the switch to the Common App. You are doing better than most of those people anyway so I’m sure you can get in fine. Vandy might be a high match in my opinion.

@wannabefeynman‌ @davegaurd‌ @DSjack‌ Thank you for chancing me!

@May2013SAT‌ Thank you for the advice!

ED will definitely help with Vandy, and if you do, i’d expect you’ll be accepted! And for GA Tech, that’s a match.

Please chance back! Thanks :slight_smile:

GA Tech is a match; Vandy is a high match/low reach

@marilo12‌ Thank you for chancing me!
