Chance for Vandy Early Decision??

I am a senior (white male) from south Georgia (rural area).

My weighted GPA is a 4.69 unweighted is 4.0

My SAT breakdown is
Reading: 690
Math: 700
Writing: 720
two score: 1390
three score: 2110
I plan on taking the SAT next month and I hopefully can raise my score by at least 100 points.

My ACT is
English: 34
Math: 31
Reading: 34
Science: 29

I do a variety of sports and extracurriculars; I am on the Varsity Cross Country and Swim teams for my school, I acolyte at my church weekly, I volunteered for a week over the summer at a summer camp for mentally handicapped children. I am the Captain of the school math team, my friends and I designed and built a robot for a robotics competition and one first place, I worked for a year and a half at a local seafood restaurant, I wrote for the school newspaper, and I sang in the school choir.
My school does not offer many APs but I will have taken about as many as I can by the time I graduate (6) I got a 3 on US History, a 3 on World History, and a 5 on AP Language and Composition.
I also am dually enrolled at a local state college to challenge myself during my senior year.
Lastly, my dad graduated from Vanderbilt undergrade and Vanderbilt Law School. Vanderbilt is my number one dream school and I would love to know my odds of acceptance if I do Early Decision I. Thank you!!

Your SAT scores are a little below the usual range for,test-obsessed Vandy (ACT composite is about 25th-percentile), but your legacy status might well compensate for them. They are solid by all other standards, and the rest of your application looks terrific. I think your chances are pretty good, especially if you are applying ED. I know the admissions officer at the presentation my son and I attended said - after going on about how “holistic” they were - that anyone below that 25th percentile would probably need a “hook.” She included legacies among the “hooks.”

Thanks a bunch! I hoped that some of my extracurriculars would offset my low-for-vandy test scores but the fact that my legacy status helps is very encouraging!

I agree, with legacy, it is likely you’ll get in, but still take the SAT again if you can. Good luck!
