Chance for waitlist?

Hi! Does anyone have info about whether there are any spots for waitlist students? btw, if anyone get off the waitlist, please also post here. Thanks!!

no clue man, but i wanted to wish you good luck! hope to see you at amherst next year!

Thank you! I hope so!

I’m pulling off the Amherst waitlist so there’s a free spot.

By “get off the waitlist,” I believe the OP means “receives an offer of admission.”

Congratulations on Dartmouth, though, Chlormel. =P

What? Who are you responding to?

lol he’s responding to chlomel…

i want to get off the waitlist as well. does anyone know if applying for financial aid could hamper your chance of getting off the list?

^I wouldn’t think so. Amherst is need-blind as far as I’m aware. Plus, they have so much money for such a small school that I would highly doubt financial aid would be taken into consideration for waitlisted students. You might want to call just to make sure though…good luck!

I’m beginning to believe that Amherst over enrolled again. Last year they went to waitlist by May 7 or 8. Thus far no activity reported! Hard to believe that no spots available but thats the way it looks. Does anyone know anything different?

The FAQ (purple sheet) sent with the waitlist decision letter notes May 10 (a Sunday!?) as the earliest the admissions office would begin to review the waitlist. I wouldn’t worry yet.

Last year Amherst started accepting students from wait list 5/7. They had sent same FAQ purple sheet saying review to begin 5/10! Thus, I am starting to think no need for waitlist acceptances this year. Someone posted that Williams overenrolled, perhaps Amherst did same.

Even if Amherst has overenrolled, that just means they won’t take anyone from the waitlist right now. Once the Ivies take a few and the melt hits, it is entirely likely that Amherst will need to dip in a little bit. But I say this without knowing any numbers, of course.

In general, admission to a school might be need blind but that doesn’t mean that admission from a waiting list is. I don’t know about Amherst in particular.

Hi everyone,

I was accepted into Amherst and committed there before May 1st. That same day, I got off the Duke waitlist and ultimately chose to go there. I emailed a professor that I had been in contact with and he replied, specifically saying that I’ve made a student on the waitlist very happy, among other things. That very likely means that Amherst is still looking at their waitlist.

Good luck guys, Amherst is a great school.
Supachai

Thanks for info! Still odd that there has been no talk of the Amherst wait list, as most other schools have begun the process.

GC spoke with Amherst yesterday, class complete…No use of wait list this year. At least that is what they said.

^Oh no! I really do want to get into Amherst. Are you positively sure?

As sure as I can be. It is strange but this year noone really inquiring about waitlist for Amherst on these forums. Much different in last couple of years. Also seemed that many people I knew rejected Amherst for other schools. Does anyone have a number that committed, say on facebook admitted student site for Amherst?

Well, Amherst does lose 60 percent of the students it accepts on an annual basis.
That’s not surprising, though I imagine it’s very frustrating for the admissions committee to know that they always lose so many great stars.

What does surprise me is that many students are turning down Amherst for downright unusual choices. Back where I’m from from, where most guys come from working class families and are first generation students, one would only turn down Amherst for HYP or Williams.

Guess this is the “fit” generation.
