Rank-~ Top 15 percent (30/200) * * * * *
SAT-~2050+ (~700+ Math, ~700+ Critical Reading, ~650 Writing) I'm really trying hard to hike these scores up though, writing will probably go up
I don't know yet, but I'm hoping I got National Hispanic Merit

I'm taking 3 AP classes this year (Stats, English, Physics B), but I'm going to end up taking the US History AP test (we don't have anything but regulars for US Hist). I took Comp Sci AP sophomore year, but didn't take the test. I plan on taking these AP classes next year: Gov/Eco AP, English Lit AP, Calculus AB AP, Biology AP, and Spanish AP.

ECs: President of HOSA (medical club), involved in knitting booties for premies, (the usual: SHS, NHS, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, Red Cross Club), Anime Club (I'm really into the Japanese culture; used to live there), I did something in the summer with the homeless and HIV/AIDS victims of inner-city Houston. Another summer, I worked at McDonalds, and next summer I would like to either take Japanese at a community college or work at the hospital

nopoisonivy made a good suggestion: a slide portfolio of my knitting

Awards: UIL Spelling and Vocabulary 2nd @ Districts, 13th Regionals, This year I'm probably going to get 1st @ Districts, top 10 in Regionals. I'm gonna do HOSA medical spelling, probably top 3 @ regionals; top ten @ state. I'm gonna do UIL stuff for choir. (I probably will win like 2nd or 1st best in Botany @ the Alamo Regional Science Fair.) Won a couple essay contests.

Predicted SAT IIs
US History - 750+
Math II C - 750+
Lit 720+

Chances? Thanks in advance

havent i seen this chances thread like 7000 times?

Ya ... you have... :) I'm just really nervous, and need to know how much to raise my scores.

Write an essay about your anime club and you're a shoo-in.

Why would that be a shoe-in thing? Just wondering

Uniqueness. Not many people have that, even less would write about it.

Should I try to raise my scores? I think it would be hard, but should I kill myself to? How much is rank killing me? I assume the anthropolgy program is fantastic...lol. You're a great deal of help.

Stats are low and rank will hurt. I definitely don't think that an anime club essay will be a shoe-in thing and I don't know if an anime club essay is the way to go. In the end, you didn't give us all that much information, as to what sets you apart. So you've got to find something that does, and then toot that horn throughout the whole app. Good luck!

I thought knitting would be my horn to toot...

I agree with GuitarMan. You should try to raise your scores as high as possible (don't be lazy!). Also, try to improve your rank-maybe to 20, at least. All in all, though, it's hard for us to evaluate you because a) we're not adcoms, and b) you haven't taken most of these tests! Good luck, I'm off to go write/perfect my personal statement for Yale.. due in.. less than 9 hours. ****.

Re: rank. At a public school the rank would probably kill you. I don't know your school though, so it could be different (magnet schools usually are). Still, make up for rank somehow.

So I have a glimmer of shine of hope? :) Should I send in a slide of my knitting projects (though they aren't like SUPER SUPER hard). They would be like sweaters, projects for the premies and seniors.

Well, what about your knitting makes you stand out in a pool of 18,000 applicants?

Hmm....I'm male, which I thought was rare (maybe not?). I do it because I love it. I can write about how it makes me feel to complete a project and make things for people (see their reactions when they hear that I made it).

Well, the key question is: How would you contribute to the Harvard society?

I'm sure I can write a nice essay....

Yeah, but that doesn't answer my question, lol.

He can contribute to the Harvard society by subtitling and distributing new anime across the campus.

^^ that is funny ^^

bump this post up

Chances? I might enter History Fair, essay style. LOL...and I'm doing Choir UIL, I'll get a 1 probably (the best). I'm 87% sure I'll taking Spanish IV.

Grades for this semester probably

US Hist A-
English AP A-
Stats AP B-
Medical Lab A+
Phys AP B+
Choir A+
Precal H B+
Medical Lab A+

That is the update. Wow...my grades look horrible, I just realized.
