CHANCE--honest assessment needed please:)

I love what I've read about Rice so far: it's challenging academics, lack of Greek life but prevalence of social activities, college-system, and casual atmosphere. Unfortunately I won't have the opportunity to visit :/ and since I'm from the Californian suburbs, no one really knows about Rice.

I already have a long list of colleges I'm interested in, and I just want some feedback on whether I have a chance of getting into Rice (that way I won't have to spend extra $$ on wasted application fees). Also, does anyone think I have any chance at any of Rice's merit scholarships?

Thank you so much and I appreciate any feedback or anything special about Rice in general!!

ok… so i’m am going to be honest… you will defintley get in to Rice. You are an excellent student with amazing potetential. Your extra-curriculars, SAT, GPA, and awards are spectacular. I also think you can qualify for one of Rice’s merit scholarship. Work really hard on your essay, get great Recs and I’m definite you will get in. :)

Your stats put you in range to get in. Work on the rest of your application and keep up the stats and you should have a good chance of getting in.

Good Luck!

^concur…

Thanks guys! This reassures me. I’ll definitely be applying to Rice this fall  So excited!

You’ll definitely get in! Incredible EC’s!

Rice’s yield rate this year was much higher than anticipated. This will probably result in a more competitive application process for next year’s students. That, on top of the fact that Rice is already an incredibly selective university with a holistic admissions process, means that an acceptance is almost never definite.

However, you have excellent stats. If you write strong essays and portray yourself well, you will stand a good chance. Your application should be really strong, so definitely go for it. Good luck!

Take the ACT just for kicks to see if you do better on that than your SAT. Your SAT is already extremely competitive, but it’s worth a shot.

Your ECs sound strong, especially if you bring them to life in your essays (or write otherwise strong essays). With strong essays and recommendations, I think you have an excellent shot at Rice.

Umm not understanding posters who are saying “you will get in for sure”

People with better credentials have been rejected in the past. It’s one thing to say you stand a good chance, but it’s far from a guarantee.

Demonstrates how unreliable and pointless chance threads are.

Well said, Antarius. The best we can accurately do is “your stats are in the range, make sure your app is good and you stand a chance.”
