Chance? I'm truly on the fence and need help

I'm not sure whether to go EDII or RD for Tufts. I really like the school, but I don't want to take too big a risk by applying RD.

Sat I: 2280 (740/800/740) Superscore*
Act: 35 (36R/36M/35E/33S) I don't remember writing Superscored I heard Tufts does that with ACT
Sat II: Math II (800), Chem (770)
Unweighted GPA: 97.13
Rank: Don't rank but top 10% if I had to say
AP: Chem (5), Physics B (5), Eng Lang (5), APUSH (5)
IB: N/A
Senior course load: AP Calc BC, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Bio, AP Span, Band, Research, Gym

Extracurriculars: Physics research, Science olympiad, Spanish club, a whole bunch of music things (2 wind ensembles, all-county, pit band, marching band, etc etc). I don't know if it counts as leadership (doubt it), but I'm principal clarinetist for one of the wind ensembles.
Job experience: None
Volunteer: Peer tutoring, I help the conductor for one of the wind ensembles and we play in local venues to raise money and such, NHS, Music Honor Society local fundraisers. That's pretty much it. I know it's kinda weak
Summer activities: Junior year I did a science program at Brookhaven National Laboratory and then last summer I did research there
Teacher recs were from my AP Chem and APUSH teacher and were pretty solid from what I heard. Same goes for guidance rec
My essays (in my opinion) are rather well written
I'm planning on having an interview if there is one available
My awards aren't too special. One from a university based on my academics and a few other little ones scattered around. No research awards (yet? :D)
I'm from NY, I'm white, and I'm a male (lol). No financial aid. No hooks.
Intended major as Chemistry

How are my shots for RD? Too risky if I really like the school? I'm kind of weary to go ED and bind myself, but it's all a game and I have to figure out how to lay my cards out.
Thanks so much guys.

If you like Tufts best of your options and aren’t worried about financial aid packages apply ED. You obviously have the numbers. I think your EC list is fine - it’s what you have to say about them that will matter.

If you think “this is all a game”, then do not apply ED. My S was just accepted to Tufts EDI. It was not a game to him. He fell in love with Tufts way above any other school he looked at. He had great stats just like you, but to him it was not a matter of going to the school with the highest reputation or whatever. He wanted to go to this school above all others. Do not apply ED if you have any inkling that you will be disappointed with an acceptance and not be able to compare offers from other schools.

btw:

I agree with mathmom. It is your essays and how your voice comes through that will set you apart from other candidates.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have made my decision, which I will keep confidential. However, I appreciate everyone’s input.
I would like to clarify something I posted: When I said “it’s a game,” I was referring to college admissions in general. But then again, all of life is game, is it not? And to that, I say “All the men and women [are] merely players.” Okay, so maybe that’s not exactly what Shakespeare was referring to, but it fit =P

Glad you clarified your point. If you truly see yourself at Tufts for the next 4 years and love it above all others, then go for it! As long as you will have no regrets about not having a few acceptances to choose from.

You need to show the adcom why you are choosing Tufts above all other choices and how you could not only fit in there, but help to contribute to the community in some way, you stand a good chance.

Any college you apply to wants to know specifically why you are choosing them and why this is the college for you. What made you fall in love with this school? If you can honestly portray that in your essays then you should be okay. Good luck! PS: write back on this thread and let us know if you get in…I’ll be rooting for you! :)

okay, since you just edited your last comment, you may or may not apply to Tufts ED.

Good luck wherever you decide to apply!

I mean, what’s not to like about being a Jumbo? Hahaha.
But thanks. Very insightful. I feel like my essays have shown all of that and all of me in a nutshell. I love the essay questions. They really got the creativity going.
Sure thing! Time shall tell for everything :)

Hahaha yes I did. Sorry about that.* edit for my edit

After much thought… it is clear that there’s nowhere I want to be but Tufts. EDII it is!
I will certainly let all know. :)

congratulations. you made a great choice :)

Thanks  I suppose I was very cautious about making my decision, but now that I’ve weighed everything out, I know I’ve certainly made the right choice. Time to let the waiting begin! I’m excited already.

You are a great candidate and, if admitted (as I hope and trust you will be), you will absolutely love Tufts.
Good luck!

For all those curious, I was accepted!

Congratulations!

Congratulations. Have a great time at Tufts!

Congrats :D
