Chance international student for Aero Engineering, UMich,Purdue,UC's etc...

  • University of Michigan, Ann Arbor : Mid reach
  • Purdue University: match
  • West Lafayette : Safety
  • Georgia Tech : mid Reach
  • University of Illinoisn Urbana Champaign : Match
  • University of Southern California : Match
  • UC Los angeles : Reach
  • UC San diego : Match/reach
  • UC Irvine : Match
  • UC Davis : Match

When you apply to public universities, you have to be aware that the obligation of the university is to in-state residents whose parents pay taxes to fund those universities. They get priority and they also get instate fees.

(BTW the UC’s are never “safeties” for anyone except possibly Merced.)

Your EC’s are good, but for the UC’s, and as an international student, your SAT is not competitive for our schools. What is produced in the stats of "accepted student"s includes those students who are tip-top students, but the stats also include the local high school students whose schools have acceptance agreements/“contracts” and desired athletes. So, don’t assume that the posted average GPA for UCLA is low. For SAT’s, anything over 2250 is safer.

@debatejunkie Thanks, but why did you put purdue and west lafayettd separated ? i’m talking about Purdue at west lafayette.

@aunt bea Thanks, i appreciate the details

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor : Low Reach
Purdue University, west lafayette : Low Match
Georgia Tech : Low Reach
University of Illinoisn Urbana Champaign : Match
University of Southern California : Low Reach
UC, Los angeles : Reach
UC, San diego : High Match/ Match
UC, Irvine : Match
UC, Davis : Not sure

Good Luck!

@LFlife thx :slight_smile:

UPDATE : UIUC : Accepted !

Update : UMich Admitted !
This should give hope to students with lower test scores like me !

Amazing! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Keep us updated about your other answers, as well as with your decision process: this is always interesting for students wondering where to go.

@MYOS1634 Thanks a lot !

Just got admitted at Purdue Today as well

So for the moment

UIUC : Accepted

I’m leaning towards U Mich right now, still waiting to visit to make a wise decision though.

Good luck to everyone else waiting for decision !

Good luck to everyone, and thanks to the people who chanced me. Hope this thread will be useful to future applicants

Congratulations!
UCSD and Georgia Tech would be strong contenders with UMich if it were me, but I look forward to reading your decision-making process (perhaps in another thread).

@MYOS1634 Thanks, yes still thinking about it…

Congrats!!!
International students are hard to predict.
Purdue would be a lower cost alternative to UMich for Aero.

@billcsho Thanks ! Yes Purdue is a nice alternative, but in terms of atmosphere I preferred UIUC over Purdue when i visited. I’ll see what happens when I visit UMich.

If you like UIUC more than Purdue (totally understandable), you may like UMich too. When are you coming to visit UMich? Let me know if you have any specific questions about UMich.

@billcsho Coming to visit Umich on the 8th, i’m doing the general visit of central campus in the morning and the North Campus visit in the afternoon. Thanks a lot, i’ll probably have more specific questions after the visit.
