Williams College
Cornell University

I know that as a international applicant wanting a substantial FA, my chances are slim. However, can you share your experiences? Do you know any other students who got into these universities? Also, will my math medals and scores boost my chances. I am female, by the way from Mongolia.

International + financial aid= you need luck.

First, are there a lot of applicants from Mongolia? If yes, your chances are hurt.

Second, are the colleges looking for applicants from your country/region? If no, your chances are hurt again.

Third, because you need financial aid, you have to be absolutely stellar.

Finally, how competitive are applicants from your country? If Mongolia is like China, the answer is extremely competitive (probably isn’t too competitive, but I don’t know if they’ll compare you to just Mongolia, or the whole of East Asia).

Now that I got that out of the way, I do like what you have, especially the IMO part (I’m an IMO participant myself, so I’m biased. By the way, what question did you get a 7 on? Q1 or Q4? Q2 and Q6 were impossible). You have good numbers, but the non-math scores aren’t too amazing. You’re probably one of the top ten Mongolian applicants, so you’re bound to get in somewhere. However, because of the financial aid part, no one can really chance you. For some reason, I see MIT taking you, because they look for your kind (don’t take my word, though). Hamilton will probably take you, too. The rest…who knows?

I do know a girl in MIT that has stats pretty similar to yours. However, she was fully funded, so she didn’t need financial aid.

None of us can evaluate your chance of admission because you are an international applicant who needs a lot of financial aid. Every college and university in the US is a “Reach”.

Sorry. But that is the plain and simple truth.
