Chance @ Ivies, Others

Hey, I am a junior, just toured many schools over break. I have been looking at schools since sophomore year, so these choices are well thought out. I just want to see what you think about my list as a whole, and individual relative chances/tips.

Recs:
I have some great recs lined up!

Essays:
Haven't Started!

Intended Major: Natural Science (Not sure which, leaning toward Physics or Biochem)

Ethnicity: White from Massachusetts (I'm a twin!)

List in no particular order:
Cornell (Arts and Sciences) (Triple Legacy)
Duke (Trinity College)
UPenn--I intend to apply ED to their school of Arts and Sciences
UVA (Arts and Sciences) (Honors Program)
Georgetown (Georgetown College) (Family member is highly Senior Prof there)
Brown
Yale (Legacy)
UChicago
Princeton
UMichigan @Ann Arbor
UDelaware Honors Program
UVM

What do you think?

Your ECs are very plain Jane and look very laundry listed (as if you just did them for admissions). Your grades and ACT are very good, something necessary for these schools. And you’re white from MA, which puts you at a disadvantage.

Cornell (Arts and Sciences) (Triple Legacy): Very strong chance
Duke (Trinity College): Reach
UPenn–I intend to apply ED to their school of Arts and Sciences: Reach
UVA (Arts and Sciences) (Honors Program): Match
Georgetown (Georgetown College) (Family member is highly Senior Prof there): Hmm, maybe low reach.
Brown: Reach
Yale (Legacy): If it’s just one person, probably still high reach.
UChicago: Reach
Princeton: High Reach
UMichigan @Ann Arbor: Match
UDelaware Honors Program: In
UVM

Cornell (Triple Legacy) - High Match
Duke - Low Reach
Penn ED - High Match/Low Reach
UVA - Low Match
Georgetown - Low Reach
Brown - Reach
Yale - Reach
Chicago - Reach
Michigan - Match
Delaware Honors - In
UVM - In

@ Raiko, if my ECs were done just for admission I would have started them sophomore or junior year, not freshman year (as I wasn’t really aware of the whole college process freshman year). I enjoy doing them, and as I said, I have others too…Thanks for the honesty though.

Too similar to those “grocery list” resume… I’d definitely not recommend applying ED to UPenn. Without the legacy or child-of-faculty-or-staff status UPenn would be quick to defer or reject laundry-list type people. Princeton would likely reject too.

Not bothering to look at stuff in Freshmen year is no excuse. That will make it look more like you were boasting on the bunch of legacy status your parents gave you.

Your grades are not spectacular but show a trend of improvement, so that’s a plus.
Your test scores aren’t greatest in the world…

I’d say Cornell ED would be the best shot. Yale… maybe.

Good 34 ACT score

Cornel - Match
Duke - Low reach
Brown - Low reach
Penn ED - low reach
Brown - Low reach
Yale - Reach
Princeton - Rejected
Uchicago - Reach

Cornell: in (esp. given triple legacy)
Duke: in
Brown: Low reach
Penn - low reach
Yale - reach
princeton - high reach
uchicago - low reach
