Chance @ John Hopkins/UC's/Uni of Florida

Hey, since I spent my highschool in Dubai, my post might be a bit different.

GPA: 4/4

Class Rank: 1/120

SAT: 1810; but I'm going to take it again and will probably score 2000+

SAT 2: Haven't given any yet. But from my test preps, my score in Math 1 would range 700+. And Physics would range 670+.

AP/Honors aren't available here; just normal classes.

As for EC:

There's pretty much no such thing as debates "competitions" here, although I can debate well.

But luckily my school has a magazine. The people I've interviewed range from royals to professors and newspaper editors.

Sports wise: Almost all competitions here are in soccer. But although I don't play soccer, I play basketball and cricket (I'm Pakistani so cricket's a given).

Volunteer Work: Again, pretty hard to find a place to volunteer here unless you're already a doctor. But by the end of this year, I'll try my best to pile up at least 50 hours of volunteer work.

Job experience: Well my options vary; I can do some random low-wage job or I can do some work in the family business. Which do you suggest?

What would you suggest to improve my chances?

bump please

I dont know much about your area but will try. UCs are actually taking more international students due to their budget crisis; however your current sat scores are low. I would recommend taking more subject tests because u havent taken any ap or honors classes. If u cannot find work maybe try making a small buisness (really hard to do) that would probably help a lot. Make sure u really go hard on your scores. Dont take math 1 if u got a good score on sat math. Tbh your chances are not the best. Are u applying for financial aid? That could hurt you. Make sure u right a killer essay. Good luck!

i wish you luck young padawan

Hey man, I’m Pakistani as well! you’ll definitely enjoy the US. Anyways, you should raise your SAT scores to at least a 2100 for Johns Hopkins, and 2000+ for the other schools. If you do that and have Subject Test scores 700+, you’ll be in at the schools you’ve listed. Good luck!

Thanks guys.

As for a private business, I can take part in the family business. Would that help?

And I realized now that helping in recycling counts as volunteer work. So I’ve spent lots of hours collecting plastic with some friends. Plus there was some kind of event where 1k bottle caps collected would provide a free wheelchair to poor people who need it. I’ve collected tons of them. But I don’t know how to provide proof of this in my application. How can I provide proof of this?

Just to let you know, schools like UC Berkeley don’t count Math 1 subject tests for engineering majors or in the college of chemistry. You didn’t list what you want to major in so I thought I’d give you a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up but I intend on going in medicine.
