chance low gpa + high sat

I have a pretty low gpa.. 3.3~3.4 unweighted
However, My SAT1 score is a 2240. SAT2Math2c: 800, physics: 770
i also have done various volunteering, community service, and work experience.

These are the colleges that I want to apply to:
1. USC/Northwestern
2. Georgia tech
3. U. of Michigan (Ann Arbor)
4. UW
5. VTech
6. UIUC
7. Boston University
8. Washingston state university
9. Penn State university

You probably have a better chance at in state universities versus OOS. Check with all of their websites to see how they weight each aspect of the application.

Also, it depends if the GPA is an upwards or downwards trend.

I agree completely with the above poster. Apply to reach schools and then have a lot of match and safety schools. Unfortunately a lot of colleges do judge by GPA and your SAT score isn’t going to be quite enough to make you a shoe in. I think you have decent chances…

Low GPA and a high SAT tells the school that you are smart, but you either didn’t apply yourself or your classes were too hard … I think if you can explain that you should be just fine! You have decent chances though! Good luck!

I don’t know what state youre from so I’m going to assume OOS for all of them. Definitely no for USC and NU, GPA is way too low. No, for Michigan, same thing as well. Possibly for UIUC and GT, if you do well this semester. You’re probably fine for PSU and UW as long as you do well this semester. And you should get in VT and WSU. Your biggest problem is your GPA, which most colleges consider the most. You don’t have particularly strong ECs either. The only thing you have going for you is test scores. Just simply explaining that you didn’t apply yourself is just an excuse, you didn’t perform and there is no indication that you will perform if they admit you. You have to have at least one strong semester before colleges believe that you will be able to succeed at their school. For some of your more reach type colleges, youre going to have to write terrific essays and great recs to get in.
