<p>You’ll probably be deferred/rejected because UMich heavily weights UW GPA in the admissions process. However, no harm in applying.</p>

<p>GPA is too low. First generation is a possible hook. If there is a temporary spike down in GPA due the divorce, that may have some positive effect.</p>

<p>Will it have any effect if my uncle received a PhD from the university?</p>
