Chance/Match me! ADHD student applying as Prelaw [NJ resident, 2.5 GPA, 1510 SAT, <$40k]

My cousin was awarded significant merit with a good GPA, not as high test scores at Drexel and is successfully working in the financial industry now. He loved his time in Philly. If you haven’t toured it you should definitely visit, it’s a very urban bustling city location people either love or hate. As for in state options I’d add Rowan. It’s growing fast with 2 medical schools and a vet school under way. It’s a safer admit than Rutgers NB and in budget. TCNJ is very good as well but if you like urban city then Ewing, NJ might be too quiet. Rowan is a happy medium suburban.

I think the process prioritizes NYS residents but I don’t think NJ residents are barred from trying their best. But it really should be thought if as a last resort - the next best college with an agreement is SUNY Bing.
Don’t forget the NJ colleges and remember a sure thing is better than a gamble.

You’re absolutely right. I’ll still take a look at it though

I’d rather live on campus, and my family won’t let me do that if it’s not prohibitively uncommutable. That’s why you don’t see a lot of NJ schools on here. However, that’s really childish on my part. I’ll take a closer look.

A friend’s daughter went to Rowan and lived on campus/student housing all 4 years. My friends house is about 15 minutes from campus and says it was the best decision she’s made allowing her daughter to stay on campus. I truly hope you’ll be able to convince your parents to let you be independent. Perhaps be prepared with some statistics about how much better students do academically if they live on campus. Plus parking can be a nightmare.

I think that might be the move - convincing my parents to let me stay.

What would my chances be as an OOS student(full pay, from NJ) applying to Baruch College, Babson, and others?
GPA: 3.0
SAT: 1510
ECs: Intern to the Judge of my City(will receive rec)
Intern to top10 law firm in NJ(will recieve rec)
StellarXplorers captain/member
CAP Cadet 2018-2022
Captain of one of my school’s National Quiz Bowl teams
Essays: Reviewed multiple times by many people, all of whom said they were Ivy-Level
Extra info: grew up in rough family situation which led to severe depression and ADHD, which went untreated until my sophomore year, after which my grades increased. I went from taking almost all accel-academic courses to taking 3 APS senior year and all honors classes. I mention this in brief in my essay and my school counselor will be writing a corroborating statement.
Intended Major: Business/Finance ideally, I intend to continue to law school afterward.

Thank you all in advance! I would really appreciate any suggestions for colleges with high rigor or good/decent business schools.

I don’t think Rutgers is likely.

As for your question on Babson - your SAT is good. They don’t show a GPA but have a 20% acceptance so reach is likely right.

I think Rutgers NB is a match/low reach, most of the other NJ schools are less selective.

I should mention that I live in New Jersey, and my (public) high school is a Rutgers feeder, so the acceptance rate is in the 80-90s for Newark, and in the 40-60s for New Brunswick. (Apocryphically) we have never had a single student get rejected from Camden :stuck_out_tongue:

If you’re now thinking about Babson, have you considered Bentley or Bryant? I’ve added them to my chancing for you, in italics. Their CDS’ don’t indicate the GPA breakdowns, so these guesses are rougher. Also, if you say you want a school with at least 3k undergrads, why is Caldwell on the list with about 1600 undergrads or Regis (CO w/about 2400 undergrads or MA w/about 1100 undergrads)? I don’t see Rutgers Camden or Newark on your list either. Are you applying to them?

Extremely Likely (80-99+%)

  • Regis (whether the CO or MA one)

Likely (60-79%)

  • Bryant (RI): About 3200 undergrads
  • Caldwell
  • Drexel
  • NJIT
  • Penn State – Branch campus (though which branch campus is not necessarily this high)
  • Seton Hall

Toss-Up (40-59%)

  • Bentley (MA): About 4100 undergrads
  • SUNY Albany

Lower Probability (20-39%)

  • Rutgers – New Brunswick

Low Probability (less than 20%)

  • Babson
  • Baruch: They’re test blind, so the strongest part of your application isn’t going to be seen
  • Penn State – University Park
  • Stevens: According to its CDS, no students had a GPA below a 3.25, and only 3% had between a 3.25 and 3.49.
  • Syracuse – if you show lots of interest, I’d probably move it up one category. According to its CDS, less than 2% of students had less than a 3.0 and only 10.10% of students had between a 3.0-3.24. It says that academic GPA, class rank, and rigor are Very Important while standardized test scores are “Considered” (so not even Important).

ETA: Added Babson into my chancing list

Did you look at Saint Joseph’s (St. Joe’s) that I mentioned earlier? Or Siena?

I took a look - St. Joe’s seems very interesting, I haven’t considered Siena.

I think when I was copying my list down, I forgot them, but Rutgers Newark is on my list. Camden is not. As for the incongruency in class size - I put Regis and Caldwell down as safety schools with decent business programs.

Bentley (MA): About 4100 undergrads
In keeping with adding Bentley and Bryant, how do you feel about my chances at Babson?

Oops, sorry I accidentally left Babson off. With an acceptance rate of 20% it’s getting into the reach for anyone category, and with your GPA, I would certainly place it in the Low Probability category.

Thank you! Would you know of any Syracuse/Babson/etc. level colleges I could feasibly put into my Likely-Lower categories?

How are you defining “level” when saying Syracuse/Babson/etc level colleges?

But with respect to universities that I think you have better shots for that offer what you’ve seemed to be asking for, I’ve already suggested them:

  • Drexel (which you added to your list)
  • St. Joe’s
  • Siena
  • Bentley
  • Bryant

What I mean by level is sort of an amalgamation of a few things(academic rigor, quality of program, northeastern college vibe, and maybe a little bit of name-recognition) I hope that isn’t too vague, and i apologize for the inconvenience.
