I think you are a strong applicant in regards to extracurriculars and academics, however, I will be honest with you, the fact that your parents had to fill out your recommendation letters for English/math/and counselors will hurt you throughout the application process as many schools put significant weight on teacher recs in comparison to the parent statement which they also had to fill out. Have you contacted any of the schools about how being homeschooled will affect your chances? As I know that the majority of spots especially for international students goes to those who have gone to a traditional school because they can have a stronger understanding of the applicant and their abilities. To be honest, with you I am not sure how diversity will affect your application because while you will be an URM you will not necessarily bring geographic diversity (being that you live in Asia).
Ultimately, I believe you have a strong chance however it will really depend on how homeschooling affects your app. If you are very passionate about attending boarding school I suggest you broaden your range and look at other schools with February deadlines as well.
Hey! I think you have a great shot at any of these schools. Your grades, URM & legacy status will definitely boost your chances. Andover is need-blind and they should provide enough for you to afford the tuition. I’m on a substantial FA package myself.
I’m a current 10th grader at Andover so PM me if you have any questions!
@meitanteinatsu02@gobigblue21 oh didn’t realize you were a legacy, if so, your chances will be much better if possible it would be great if you post back on CC on M9 regarding your results. Regardless of what happens. Good luck, I’m rooting for you!
@ilovechoateeeee@meitanteinatsu02 oh sorry about the confusion. I’m not sure where @gobigblue21 got the legacy notion From, but I read the “Alum” under Exeter and Andover as having someone in your family as an Alum of those schools. I clearly totally forgot that these two schools do a very large number of alumni interviews. Regardless, I still think you are a very competitive applicant.
Hi this late sorry, but no I’m not a legacy lol. I’m a new 10th-grade day student on partial FA if that helps! I don’t know where you got the legacy notion?
@ilovechoateeeee, @gobigblue21 stated in post 3 that @meitanteinatsu02 would get in because of his/her “URM & legacy status” I got confused and looked back at the OP and I assumed the “alum” next to Andover and Exeter meant someone in his/her family was an alum of those 2 schools. Now I’m REALLY confused because @gobigblue21’s post #9. But alas, I guess we will never know since they were banned from CC. Regardless, To the OP: I think your chances are strong and I have a feeling you will have options on M10. Did you by any chance get to interview with Deerfield, Choate, or Hotchkiss, because if you didn’t I’m afraid your chances at those schools will NOT be very good.
@YoungThriver I know that at many of the schools this year they had SO many applicants that they couldn’t fit all the interviews in by the January deadline, thus many schools (Milton, Andover, St.Paul’s, etc.) created interview wait lists and said to complete the application and they would then reach out for interviews. Ultimately, they will probably review an application, and if they feel there is a STRONG chance one will be admitted they will reach out for a Skype or Alum interview.
@CC4life I think it would be more likely for a school to reach out for an interview if they are on the fence about someone. Why would they want an interview with someone they KNOW is going to be admitted or rejected? Anyway, that’s just my two cents.
