So you are one of those students that are hard to chance because it could go either way. Your SAT is under the 25th% as is your UW GPA. It really depends on how your school weights grades. If they are very heavily weighted, that actually works against you. By applying DUS and summer I’d say you have given yourself the best shot. I think it’s likely you’ll be admitted with that weighted GPA, but again, it depends on your schools weighting scale, the rigor of your coursework and how PSU recalculates that GPA.
It’s really going to depend on the other applicants. For example, at our local high school, an A is a 95 and above. An A- a 93 to 94.9, etc… Students in honors are weighted 1.1. At your school an A is a 93 and your honors grades are weighted 1.25. We also don’t even have an A+ possibility. Penn State takes all of this and recalculates it into their own formula, and you can see why. A 4.0 from our local high school is more difficult than a 4.0 from yours. Our school is not as heavily weighted. So in order to compare apples to apples, they will recalculate the grades on their own scale to see how students compare. So in the end, it will depend on how the other applicants fare. On the face of it, a 4.1 GPA should get in. But then again, with a 3.5 UW and an 1190 on the SAT, you may be borderline. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific but Penn State admissions is notoriously murky.
thank you. One last question then…do you know if they will be making decisions for summer for EA? Or will those applicants just get put in with the Nov applicant pool
