Chance Me! 2130 SAT/low gpa

This is my first post on cc, so bear with me. Ill try to catalog my stats and junk to make it easier...

-White male
-Hometown: Tampa, FL
-HS Class of 2010
-SAT: 750 CR / 700 M / 680 W
-GPA: eh, probably 2.9 UW / 3.5 W (note: upward trend in effect, 1st semester of my senior year I had 3.5 UW / 4.0 W, with an A in BC Calc and B in AP Chem)
-AP Classes: World History, Environmental Science, English Lang/Comp, U.S. History, English Lit, U.S. Gov't & Politics, (Currently) Chemistry and BC Calculus
-Currently attend academically challenging (GPA-wise) boarding school in North Carolina for the second year, and will have a total of five years in high school, with my repeat junior year and senior year at boarding school
-EC's: About 110 hours of community service total; Started my own car detailing business as a sophomore in high school and made about $2000 per summer, and turned out to be great for me because I could schedule work around my golf tournaments; Most of my time was spent at golf tournaments and practicing/playing, so there wasn't much extra time left for clubs, etc.
-Golf: I am mainly applying to D3 schools so the recruiting isn't as official as for D1 sports ,but I am in repeated contact with a couple of the schools' coaches and pretty sure that it will benefit me in the admission process
-Eye-catching essay (in my opinion, anyway)
-Schools:
Rhodes College (golf)
Centre College (golf)
Sewanee: U. of the South
Wofford College
William and Mary
Gettysburg College
Denison U.
U. of Richmond

I have no idea how my GPA will factor with my SAT, especially with the smaller name schools to which I am applying. So, if you could chance me, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, since all of my schools are on the common app if you can think of any other schools, preferably small in size, that you think would be a good match for me and are on the common app, I still have time to send in some last minute applications. All input is welcome. Thank You!

-Oh, also I should mention that my mom is an alum of W&M's undergrad and law school

please!!! anybody!!!

I know, and I’m sorry this will sound like that Matt Hasselback commercial where he wonders why Brett Farvre (or was it Rothlesburger? Whatever), gets all of the fan mails and Matt doesn’t get any, and the one fan mail he gets is a mail that asks him how to send a fanmail that Brett will actually read, but I am wondering how to post a forum on College Confidential. How do I post a forum?

Oh, and I’m not sure what those colleges require, but (I know this is going to be a weak answer, but I’m sorry, I really don’t know, I’m just writing what I can) it looks like you have a pretty solid background. If your SAT stats are somewhere in the middle of the average SAT scores of the colleges, you have a pretty good chance of getting in if those colleges have high acceptance rates. If they don’t, if you’re in the high end, you should be relatively fine because of your EC’s.

I think you mean thread, and to make one you just go to the top of whatever forum you’re looking at and click “new thread.”

Anybody else?!? Most of my schools are kind of obscure, but what about william and mary/gettysburg? Yea or nay?

I think that you have a shot at William And Mary (thats the only school I know, so I can not properly chance you for more). You have strong grades and athletics.

Good Luck!

Rhodes College (golf) - match
Centre College (golf) - match
Sewanee: U. of the South - don’t’ know enough to chance
Wofford College - don’t know enough to chance
William and Mary - low reach because of your gpa but alumni status may help here
Gettysburg College - match/low reach
Denison U. - don’t know enough to chance
U. of Richmond - match/low reach

Overall everything looks good except for your GPA but they will like the upward trend. Good Luck!

Thanks man.

I really appreciate the responses guys. I’m really worried about W&M tho…

W&M could be a match. But your GPA is kind of low though. I would say you have very good chances there. =)
GOOD LUCK!!
