I am hoping to major in dance, but I was wondering what my academic chances with these schools were:

I’m a female, 1/2 Filipino, 1/4 Polish and 1/4 German. My mom has a MEd, and my dad has a JD. She is a teacher and he is in the Army as active duty, and will most likely be either transferred or deployed at the end of next year.

All of my classes have been either accelerated or AP, except my French class first semester freshmen year (because of how my school works) and my math class junior year, as well as my choir classes and gym classes which obviously can’t be accelerated. I have gotten a C both semesters every year in an accelerated math class fr. and so. year, and in AP Physics jr. year, and As and Bs in everything else.

UW GPA: 3.359
W GPA: 4.0556
ACT: 32 composite, 35 English, 28 Math, 33 Reading, 32 Science, 27 Writing

APs: European History (3), US History, English Lang, Physics 1 (scores not yet released) and by the end of senior year I will have taken AB Calc, English Lit and Bio.

ECs:
4 year member of Orchesis Dance Company, and captain for two of those years + featured choreographer for three years, last year my dance was featured in our performance at Disney World
4 year member of choir at school, and in the highest choir for jr. and sr. year
4 year (hopefully!) cast member of the spring musical
2 year member of the Advanced Dance gym class offered, had to drop it for sr. year because of a scheduling conflict
Corps de ballet at local studio for 8 years, in the highest level for Ballet, Pointe, Tap and Jazz (I’ve taken class there for 10+ years)
Assistant Teacher at the annual Summer Dance Camp at local studio
Training at the Joffrey Academy of Dance in Chicago for 2 years with consistently positive teacher reviews
Assistant Teacher at the Joffrey Academy of Dance
Member of National Honor Society
I will also hopefully have worked the same job that I just got all through senior year.

Schools:
WashU, UIUC, Univeristy of Wisconsin Madison, IU, Temple University, Skidmore, Marymount Manhattan, University of South Carolina, UMich, Tulane, Loyola Chicago, Wesleyan, George Washington University, Buter, Ball State, Elon, Northern Illinois, Akron University

What are my chances of getting into these schools academically?

WUStL, UIUC, Madison, Michigan and Tulane are reaches. The rest are matches or safeties.

To add to that, you might want to cut a few schools out so that you can give each app the attention it needs. 18 is quite a lot imo. You have a lot of reaches that are OOS publics. Can your family afford the tuition for these schools?

Reaches: WUStL, Tulane, and UIUC. The thing about Wisc and UMich is that if they are in-state for you, then your chances will improve noticeably and it would be cheaper. Obviously, only one (and that is if you happen to live in Michigan or Wisconsin) could be in-state meaning the other is a reach.
Matches and safeties are the rest.
I also recommend cutting down the list. Applications can go for $80 a piece so I suggest at max 3ish reaches, 5ish matches and 2 safeties. Good luck!

Thank you for your comments, and replying so quickly. The reason I have so many schools is because the admission for the dance major for most of them an audition is required, and I want to have lots of options. I live in IL, so I’d be very surprised if I was rejected from UIUC and NIU, but you never know. Thanks!

I’m at Umich and the low gpa is meh but you also have a 32 ACT. It’s a reach :confused:

I feel like the GPA could keep you out of some of the reaches. The other parts of your application look steller, and you will most likely get a lot of aid from your safeties.
