Chance Me- African American Male looking at Top Universities

^^^ Not by that much. But yeah, he'll get into BU. They love diversity, so theyll gladly take a black guy with good numbers.

im just curious about his gpa
why
3.3???
im not quite sure why everyone says match for everywhere (with urm)

i am not sure if its weighted gpa or not guys, thanks for everything so far. also, i agree with jpod, my college councilor puts nyu and bu at the same level: match

i think my hook is my violin playing... i am actually pretty good made regional orchestra both times i auditioned.. and im working on a piece i may send as a supplement.. how many black guys do you know play a violin? haha

i am not positive if my school weighs AP grades yet, i will get back to this thread on that issue

but based on the information available, please continue giving your opinions!!!
thanks to everyone so far!

and I have beat every other african american in my class SAT-wise...

Haha, you shouldn't use other people of your race as benchmarks for success.

yeah true.. one of my friends said that colleges may ask race-wise but i didnt believe him at first - but you can never have too much information...
however, i am probably also in the top 20% with a 2000+ score

Haha. I was gonna say--How many black people can say they play the violin :P

You need not worry.

I'm seeing an awful lot of inconsistency here with his stats and colleges compared to the other threads here. Just how much does being african american help?

my councilor tells me that its not solely being african american that gives me an advantage... its the fact that i am an african american male with a distinct trait that seperates me from everyone else in my demagogue

sweet! i havnt met any blacks that want to do theoretical sciences...or anyone else?

i was actually talking about the violin, but whatever works... anybody else want to help?

0.00...? How does that work? In NC, that would mean all Fs, and it would also be 0.00 weighted. Just curious.

Also, have you looked at UNC at all?

i have, and im scared of it haha.

also, my school hasnt given me my unweighted gpa... my grade trend has been most Bs with the occasional A.. averages to around a B+.

btw i have a friend that graduated a year before me, he attends BU now on full scholarship.
what were the stats?

3.01
1130 SAT
he is gettin straight As

moral of the story?: thank god for great essays

That's sick. You should def. come to BU then :D

whoa.. i feel a bit better about my gpa now =)

haha i am definetely considering it. i hope it becomes a tossup between BU UVA and Northwestern but i know i will never get that lucky lol

Doctorsboy, you wrote:

I believe when you wrote "demagogue", you meant "demographic." A demagogue is an orator who appeals to the passions and prejudices of his audience. Like, say, Hitler. :-) just fyi.

oops haha sorry its really late... but can you chance me plz??

Sure, I'll give it a go:
