chance me; also kelley

first time posting here

IU is the school i dream of going to. senior this year

3.6 gpa cumulative throughout junior year
-30 on ACT
-1 yr basketball 2 years wrestling
-100 plus hours of community service

2 clubs
-African American

I know my stats are not amazing but do i have a chance of getting in since IU has about a 70 percent acceptance rate

I want to be directly admitted into Kelley school of business but would not my petitioning

The thing that is that i only took a single AP class throughout high school and no honors.

And can someone tell me what exactly petitioning entails

You’re fine as far as getting into IU.

A petition for Kelley just requires an additional recommendation and essay. A lot of people get admitted through it, so just give the essay your best effort and see what happens. It also helps to apply as early as possible.

Is the GPA you listed the weighted gpa? The reason I ask: if your weighted gpa, which is the one that you should submit with your application, is 3.7 you would be eligible for IU’s Prestige Scholarship that is awarded upon admission. Also, if you are considering taking the ACT again, a one point increase along with weighted 3.8 gpa would qualify you for the IU Excellence or Distinction Scholarship (depends on whether you are instate or out of state). Good luck.

out of state student
and that is my weighted GPA through junior year
does IU look at first semester senior year

^^Not for scholarship consideration because the deadline is November 1st.

Looks like you would be eligible for Hudson and Holland scholars which is $6000 per year

HoosierMom,

Is the Hudson and Holland scholars program only for minority students? I read over the eligibility requirements and while it notes that preference would be given to minority students, it doesn’t say flat out the scholarship is restricted to minority students. I’m a white male, but I have a strong background in social justice with extensive experience, including a three week trip with a non-for profit diversity scholarship program. How feasible would it be for me to apply, or should I not?

would not taking any honors or AP classes hurt my acceptance into IU or my petition for kelley

Coste, you should definitely apply to HHSP.

Yeah, I’m in the HHSP, currently delaying from writing an essay for it, and you definitely don’t’ have to be minority. There are european people in my classes, people who are like a quarter native american. You can be German and be in the HHSP as long as you do the application, which is in the Selective Scholarship Application that IU will email you about if you’re eligible, and perhaps you’ll get in!

Also you mentioned Kelley, even if you’re not a DA into Kelley, please consider joining the KLLC. A good handful of people on my floor aren’t DA while others are Fry Scholars, HHSP, Wells etc, so it’s definitely a good mix. Also check out the website [We Are IU | We Are IU](http://www.weareiu.com) it’ll give you a good idea of whether or not IU is truly your dream school and more specifically, I made a post about living in the KLLC.
Thanks for all the help to those who responded about HHSP, sorry for hijacking thread!
