Chance me, an international student

I am an international student and English is my second language (Never come to US).
Score: SAT total 1910 CR 450 Math 800 Writing 660 Toefl 91 (Gatech do not consider)
GPA 3.6~3.7
Course: One of the best high school in my country (my country has no Honor couse) No AP and IB
EC: some, such as volunteer, organizer of one activity and so on. Not very much though
What are my chance? Will AO give different view point at my CR because I am a foreiner? Thanx

Do you have financial needs or not? That’s biggest question for international students. Only very few schools in the US meet financial needs for foreign students. If you don’t have financial need, you have much better chance.

It is tough for anybody on the forum to tell you whether you can get in or not since international students come from different background. Best to talk to ga tech advisors to get better feel on the situation.

Traditionally, 450 and 800 is not good score for American applicant but once again, since you are international students, that may not matter.

I do not have financial need since Gatech do not provide any FA to undergraduate international student.

I didn’t know Tech don’t offer financial aids to international students. So you may have good chance.

Read from tech web site, Ga Tech has accepted a lot more OOS (specially international students, jump from 6% to 12%) this year than in the past a couple of years probably due to financial budget since international students normally are “fully paid” customers.

Look like you just beat minimum Verb SAT for Ga Tech. So you got a chance.

"Take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I). The scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to Georgia Tech. Regardless of the system in which you have been educated, you must earn a minimum score of 440 on the critical reading portion of the SAT I to be considered for admission. Based on figures from previous years, your combined math, verbal, and writing SAT I score should be better than 1800 to be competitive for admission. Georgia Tech does not require prospective students to take any SAT II subject test or the TOEFL. "

hey nickfox,

i am an international student myself. got in in 2005. i think that though your verbal score is a little bit low, you should try. it’s possible. tech doesn’t give fa, but if you need it, you can apply for a tuition waiver after you study at tech for 3 semesters (or something like that) and pay in-state. i got it for six semesters.

You think 3.5GPA is ok? 2100 SAT, int’l paying fullfare as a OOS US citizen living abroad going to an American accredited school. 3 AP’s Math/Phy/Eng all 5’s.
