Chance me? An opinion would be nice

Hello! I'd like someone to chance me honestly:

Goals: Duke, Cornell, UChicago, Yale, NYU, BU, Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, Boston College, Colgate, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame

GPA: 3.86 weighted
SAT Score: 2090 (retaking though, and aiming for 2150)
SAT II Physics: 630
SAT II Math II: 650

ECs:
-Sports Editor
- Club founder, Club and District President (Red Cross)
- Executive Assistant (Key Club)
- 600 hours of service
- 12 years of piano

Awards:
-President of the Year Red Cross
- Youth Musicians Award
- AP Scholar Award

-Submitting Art Portfolio for all the schools that accept one

Taken 10 APs throughout High School

try 700+ for subject tests (a tip for Math II: wherever possible, be lazy and let your calculator do the work for you…but not for things like x^2=36)

edit:
If you are applying to universities this year ignore what I said.

if I don’t, then are my chances in any of these looking good?
My counselor told me my essays are my strongest contributors, but I’m not too sure how my essays are…

For the more selective colleges, your essays should be good, but not the only thing going for you. In this case, you need to work on almost every aspect of your application. I would say colgate is your best match.

I think most of them are reach for you except UCSD, Colgate, BU.
But your essays might help you get in. Good luck!

Do you have an unweighted GPA? It’s really hard to tell your chances with a weighted GPA since everybody does it slightly differently and an unweighted GPA is more accurate and standardized.

All of those schools are basically reaches except for BU, BC, NYU, UCSD, Colgate, and Notre Dame. Work on getting your SAT’s above 2200 at least if you’re applying to Duke, Yale, etc. You also need SAT II’s above 700, preferably above 750. Your EC’s seem decent, and the art portfolio will definitely help if it’s good! Don’t stress out too much tho; even though many of those schools are reaches, schools like BU and NYU and still really good! Chance me back?

What’s in-state for you? Will you apply for financial aid?

yes, i’m planning to apply for financial aid, and the only in-states are the UCs

but the thing is, i’m not applying under an art major so i’m not sure if they’ll even consider it. do you know if they do?

Your gpa is ok, but your SAT II is subpar,at best. 630 and 650? I’d consider not turning them in. Those are , quite frankly, embarrassing. AP Scholar award isn’t that big, since about 80% of HS students get it, and “600 hours of service”…? Care to elaborate? You can’t just expect people to go “ooh” because of 600. Quality over quantity, grasshopper.

HOWEVER, if you are native American, you are GOOD to go for these colleges. Or Pacific Islander may work as well.
If not, the last 3 colleges seem like low reaches, so well done.

a good deal of my service hours were obtained through red cross and key club - shelters, donations, food banks, etc.
and for the AP Scholar award, i received five 5’s and two 4’s, which i’m sure less than 80% of HS students receive.

but thanks for the SAT II advice; my counselor told me it wouldn’t hurt to put it in

I was kidding elmhsstudent (more like trolling), but anyways in a more serious note, your service /ECs are great. If you got five 5’s and two 4’s by the way, that’s AP Scholar with distinction (AP scholar is 3 tests with at least a score of 3 :stuck_out_tongue: )

For the SATii, it doesn’t hurt, and it may actually instead show your interests, so if you think it won’t hurt you, put it in, as it shows your effort.

oh whoops. mah bad. but thank you very much!

@elmhs: if you need financial aid, don’t apply to out of state public universities (not that they’re on your list, but just saying).
You’re on track for the UCs and you should get into one of your targets. Perhaps broaden that to one more UC since none of the 3 can be considered safeties.

Duke, Cornell, UChicago, Vanderbilt, Yale would require you to have a national-level prize or award to have a shot. Otherwise, apply “just to see” but keep expectations low.

NYU, BU, Boston College, Notre Dame are notorious for terrible financial aid. BC makes no secret about the fact that the more you need financially the harder it’ll be. BU and Notre Dame love admit/denys, ie they make you feel good because you got in, but they give you such horrible financial aid that you can’t come. Bad for their yield number though. NYU just gives insufficient packages.

Colgate: you’re on track, but keep up your EC’s and your grades. They meet need so if you need financial aid, it’d be the best match for you along UC’s.

You need to find 3-5 schools that you can afford and that match your stats.
