Chance me (and give suggestions, please)

Hey everybody,

It's my first post here, but I've been reading this site for a while, and must saythis has been one of the few times I've felt so vastly inferior to much of the population. Anyways, I have a problem. I have 3 "goal" colleges where I would gladly go to if accepted, but my chance of getting into each of them is fairly low. I also have a couple safety schools (both of which I'm 100% of getting in). The problem is that I don't have any "intermediate" schools between my targets and my safeties. If anybody could recommend some of those inbetween schools for me (preferably in the midwest or northeast), that would be greatly appreciated. Also, could you guess as to how unlikely I am to get into Wash U, Tufts, and Brown? Thanks.

4.0 GPA (unweighted) with multiple honors/AP courses.
No class rank, but I can only imagine I'm in the top percent.
5 on Calc BC (both sections) and Physics tests. (3 on government)
taking 3 college courses (2 math courses and one pharmacology) this year, and two AP courses (spanish and lit)
35 on ACT (which I prefer to use for obvious reasons)
-36 math
-35 reading, writing, science
2170 superscore on SAT
-800 math
-720 reading
-650 writing (not the greatest, I know)
3 year varsity goalkeeper
-All conference academic team
-All conference honorable mention
-Co-capitan

Thanks again for taking time to answer these questions for me. If there's any more info I forgot to include, just post what you need, and I'll provide it if I can.

Edit: I forgot about SAT II. Mathematics-800, Physics-800, Bio(M)-740

Welcome to CC! Where the extraordinary are ordinary, the overachieving come standard, and a ridiculous profile is the norm. I’m just here to be an outlier.

Anyways, your ACT is solid. I think your academics are excellent as well. Your ECs are, well, a bit lacking, but certainly not bad. I do think that Tufts could be a high match for you. WUSTL is probably the same, maybe a low reach depending on your race and state of residence (please provide for more accurate chances). Brown is definitely a reach as an Ivy. Can’t say too much in specific; there are never any guarantees.
By the way, you’re not that badly off. CC has a way of making you feel somewhat inferior, but ignore it. Either that, or avoid the place.

WashU and Tufts are matches. Brown is a reach.

Might look at Holy Cross which has very strong science programs and just built $70 million science building. HC is also one of the few LAC’s that has produced Nobel Prize Winner in medicine. Holy Cross is slightly easier than Tufts to gain admission to.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I do realize EC’s are lacking, and that has really started to become a worrying point for me, but I’m dedicated to soccer and devote most of my free time the entire year to that. I’m in Iowa (and therefore white, lol), but most of my family is in New England, which explains the midwest and northeastern preferences. How difficult is it to gain admission to UChicago or Northwestern compared to Tufts or Wash U? Again, thanks for the replies.

Chicago is a bit more difficult to get into than Wash U and Tufts. Next year in particular, its acceptance rate will probably be approximately 15%, whereas WashU should have an acceptance rate in the low 20’s with Tufts’ in the high 20’s.

As for Northwestern, you never know. As you might know, NU and Chicago have a rivalry going, and Chicago’s been pulling ahead of NU in terms of acceptance rate lately. More than likely, NU is going to try to catch up, so I would predict that NU’s acceptance rate next year will be in the high teens, which will make it slightly more selective than Wash U and Tufts.

U rock! 1520/1600 on the SAT-that’s awesome! (noone looks at writing). Go for all the ivies! good luck

You have excellent academic and standardized test credentials… Good luck.
