Hi to everyone. I'm a football player for my high school and ever since I was a sophomore I've wanted to go to Tufts University. Being an athlete i can't get help from my friends since most of them are looking for athletic scholarships or going to community colleges. Theyve told me I should do the same. I don't want to though, I want to go to Tufts! ive seen some people get chanced here so I figure why not try. Here are my stats:

GPA- 3.89/4.12
SAT- 2100
710 Reading
650 Math
740 Writing
Race/Sex- Caucasian Male, first in my family to go to college
Rank- Top 15% in my high school. It's a pretty crummy innercity high school
AP classes- AP English Language (4)
AP English Lit (in progress)
AP Stats (4)
AP US History (5)
SAT II- 760 in US History, 710 in Literature

ECs- Eagle Scout, served as Senior Patrol Leader once as well
3 Year Varsity Football
Rebuilt houses around Mississippi during a small portion of the summer with my local church for 3 years
Service Club, 10-12. I was president of it last year.

Honestly I want to hear what all of you think. My choice school is Tufts but I'm also looking at UMass-Amherst, Dartmouth College (yeah right lol...) and Clark University. I'm applying to UCLA, USC and Pomona as well, in case I need to be near home. What do you guys think?

Lol, probably. Anyway, you seem to have a very decent chance of getting into Tufts – you’re just at the spot where you don’t look like you’re using them as a safety, but they’re not completely out of your range.

Good grades+Good SATs+First generation+Eagle Scout+Varsity Football=probably in.

UMass shouldn’t be to difficult, chances aren’t too great at Dartmouth or Pomona, but who knows? Good Luck!

Thanks haha yeah I hear Tufts is often a safety school. Idk why though! I fell in love with the school when I went to Massachusettes last year.

Anyway I can only take a quick check today, I won’t be back online until probably later tonight or tomorrow. So help people! Please? hah

I think even as a native Californian, UCLA might be a stretch. USC and UMass look mid reach and good shot, respectively. Not sure about Tufts or Pomona. You might have to write good essays to seal the deal. Again, not sure about Tufts, it’s a good school but it’s not often talked about.

Tufts is tough, no doubt. Even people with stellar stats have to write exceptional essays to gain admission to that particular institution. If I were you, I would apply to Tufts, but also some less exclusive schools that are similar to Tufts (Bard? Boston U? Just read the Fiske guide from cover-to-cover like I did).
