Comm. Serv/EC:
Most of my comm service comes from research. To be in the class, I had to find a science research lab at a university or such and join. I was accepted to the Kimmel Cancer Center at TJU. I work on breast cancer research there. I volunteer during the summer and school year. 10th and 11th grade I had 300+ hours each.
Freshman year I volunteered at community center and got 75 hrs.
Also freshman year, I helped my middle school participate in a robotics competition.
Self taught guitarist. Playing for two years now.
Going to Karate/MMA since age 6. Received black belt in 2009
I tutor middle school kids at my SAT prep center in math and help them with school work

Awards:
Semifinalist Siemens Science Fair (12th grade) (One of ~200 out of 1500 people to receive it)
AP scholar award (11th grade)(one of 16 in grade to get it)
Multiple 1st and 2nd places in regional and state science fair

Random Facts:
Bilingual (Russian and English, immigrated at age 1)
I have been featured in 2 science papers published in 2010 and a third one is being written currently.

So that's me in a nutshell. This is a list of schools I am thinking of applying to:
Drexel BS/MD
Boston U Liberal Arts Accelerated
Swarthmore
Upenn
University of the Sciences of Philadelphia

I think all but penn your in for sure. You will get into Drexel easily.
Please chance me back!!!thanks

Drexel BS/MD- IN!
Boston U Liberal Arts Accelerated- IN!
Swarthmore- High Match
Upenn- Low Reach (if ED, otherwise mid-reach)
University of the Sciences of Philadelphia- IN!

Good luck (to someone who appears to be a fellow Philly area native). Thank you for chancing me as well!

Thanks! Do you recommend Boston U’s undergrad+med school or Drexels? Also, what do you think of Johns Hopkins chance?

Swarthmore’s a high reach for everyone. Shouldn’t be considered a high match by anyone. With that said, you look good for everywhere else except UPenn, which I’d say is a high reach, as it is for anyone. Not sure about the medical programs, though.

Grades: Meh
ECs: Not bad: Deep but possibly not spread enough. Congrats on Siemens! This year I think 2500 people joined.

Drexel BS/MD- High Match. BS/MD programs are surprisingly competitive
Boston U Liberal Arts Accelerated- In, BS/MD at BU- Low-Mid Reach
Swarthmore- Mid Reach, I don’t see much Liberal Arts potential in your Stats
Upenn- mid reach
University of the Sciences of Philadelphia- In
JHU- mid-high match

Drexel BS/MD - in
Boston U Liberal Arts Accelerated - low reach
Swarthmore - high reach
Upenn - high reach
University of the Sciences of Philadelphia - target/low reach

BTW, you didnt chance me for 2 of my schools on my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233558-my-story-will-my-dream-schools-understand-2.html</a></p>

Looks grest overall
but
i cant really tell the chances especially bsmd programs. i know they are pretty competitive
just wondering but why are you considering swarthmore?
and for advice, you can maybe add some safeties too

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233760-any-last-advice.html</a>
need some advice thx!

for ivies your GPA has to be top 10%, it’s a prerequisite, so you dont really have a chance at penn or swarthmore. HOWEVER, I do think you would be an excellent candidate for some public ivies like u michigan and carolina b/c all your other choices are safeties, you need some matches. Even ED at JHU would make sense and you’d have a decent shot. If you want to get an MD consider pre med at University of Washington in seattle.

thanks for chancing me already! :D

@Anon, I don’t think 10% is a prereq. They still accept about 10-20% of their students from beneath that. The 10% is a prereq for the accelerate programs, but I’m hoping my grades, EC’s, and the fact that my school is competitive will balance it out

Nice stats and awesome ECs. I’d say you’re definitely in for Drexel, BU, and USP. Swarthmore and UPenn are reaches, as they are for everyone.

Hi! I’m here to chance back  Well… you are SO in BU and Drexel. As for JHU, your ranking may catch you a bit, but I’d say you have a chance. The main problem would be Swarthmore and UPenn. It really is hard to predict the results in those schools, and that ranking will definitely hurt you.

bumperrrrrr

you’ve got nice safeties and the research ECs look great. but Swarthmore is ranked 3rd or 4th in LAC rankings and i don’t think your GPA and rank is good enough… top 20% isn’t really safe at all:P sorry im not an expert on the med/science/research application pool or such majors, but i think just generally Philly, Drexel and Boston are good, don’t know about Penn:P but that’s always a reach

I was just wondering, when all of you are saying that I’m definitely in Boston and Drexel, are you reffering to regular undergrad or the accelerated programs?
And I have an interview with swarthmore on the 12th, so we’ll see how that goes.

def boston and easily drexel

I think your SAT score and being a Siemens semifinalist gives you a good shot at all of them. There was a kid at my school two years ago who had a similar SAT I score and was also a Siemens semifinalist that got into Caltech, MIT, and one other school that’s slipping my mind (he’s at Caltech right now).

Your test scores and ECs are great, but your GPA is relatively bad for schools like UPenn and Swarthmore so I’d say those schools are slight reaches but I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into either. Your Siemens Semifinalist thing is awesome! You’re definitely in at USP. Sorry, I don’t know too much about the accelerated programs at BU and Drexel. Chance me back?

Drexel BS/MD- in
Boston U Liberal Arts Accelerated- 25%
Swarthmore- 5%
Upenn- 2%
University of the Sciences of Philadelphia- in

Can you please chance JHU as well? Gracias
