what are my chances at the University of Rochester or any other good schools you can think of

Rochester looks like it will be a low reach. I would suggest reposting after several months...after you have taken all your tests and with a more detailed description of your XC's. You will have a better idea yourself, especially after you've written your essays and gotten your recs.

When people say private schools give more money, you have to take that in context. If someone whose family makes under $60K gets into Harvard, they will likely get more money than from their state school. But that scenario works for very few. The great financial aid tends to be at the very top colleges such as the ivies. Very few colleges meet 100% of need. And while other privates can give good merit aid, that aid generally just goes to their top students.

So research individual schools you are interested in. For most, their state school is the cheapest option.

private schools almost always give more money because they have more money, im not going to go to a state school because im not an idiot.
out of state schools cost almost as much as privates, but they give almost no merit, and very little need. this is because they have 30k or more students and cant afford to give money to all of them. also, this post was to chance me, not disagree with my opinion so next time try answering the questions and you might not be looked upon so poorly

When I answer posts like these, I'm not doing so for just the benefit of the OP. The hope is that other kids won't believe the erroneous information. And no, private schools don't always give more money and it is FACT that for most, their state school will be cheapest. I'll also add that most who attend state schools are not idiots. You'll find many of the best students in the Country at them, largely because of cost.

Is it just me or is there a lot of aggressive misinformation here all of a sudden?

look, im not trying to give aggressive vibes, but when you ask for someone to chance you, and they give you a lecture about state schools being cheaper, its frustrating, and i didnt ask about where would be cheapest, i asked for the best, and if you think NAU, ASU or UA is better than URochester or any other private schools that have been mentioned here, you would be mistaken.

FACT:private schools give more money through aid and scholarships than public schools, the fact that tuition is cheaper in a state school is irrelevant to how much money they give. Also, people who go to state schools may not always be idiots, but they rarely seriously consider their state school as well as private schools throughout the nation
