Chance me and I will love you forever.

OK--As long as I have remembered, I have been extremely ambitious (see the username), and I have come from a family full of big shots. Sisters went to BU, Harvard, brother went to McGill. I am pretty smart guy, and I have started a lot of things, but my grades are not perfect. I am currently a male, Jewish, Israeli-American sophomore in a ridiculously competitive private Waldorf School in LI, NY. This school is no joke, and in a class of 25, usually sends half to top 40 schools. I really need insight if as of now I am good enough, and what I could do in the future to get into a top school (my dream is UPenn, Georgetown, GW,...).
Here are my general stats and expectations:
My sophomore year has been OK, I have maintained an overall average of 93 (top 3,4 in class). Unfortunately, my freshman year average was horrible (B+ average due to terrible math and science) and I am afraid it will keep me out of college. Our school doesn't have AP's (the courses are supposed to be "just as hard if not harder"), and I am among the best in my class of 28 people. Please tell me if I have a chance because I am really new to this stuff!

Other Factors: Interview would be my best thing actually.

Anyway thanks! I want to go to schools that offer good political programs, and I already know thats what I want to pursue. I love politics, and I live and breathe it. Do I have a chance at UVA?
I would really appreciate it!

it’s always tougher to get in if you’re OOS, but it seems that your school is very competitive and well-known, since you are one of the top students in your class at your school that can only benefit you, your projected SAT scores are OK, try to get above 2200, and you seem to have quality extracurriculars, OOS students are hard to call but I’ll say your chances are pretty good, UVA will select several in-staters that don’t have the resume that you do, and that always hurts as an OOS student, but I still think you have a great chance

thanks!
yeah from what i hear OOS is hard for UVA.
so does that mean that i havee a better shot at like NYU or Columbia?

I think you will definitely get into NYU, however Columbia and the other Ivies a very difficult to get into, with them you just never know, especially the colleges that have <10% acceptance rate (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, CIT, Stanford, Columbia), I’d say you have a better chance to get into NYU compared to UVA, but you have a great chance to get accepted by both

You have a very good chance. Your scores are good, and it’s good that you are taking AP’s outside of school.

most probably u will get into UVA and NYU (if it is not stern) columbia will be kinda difficult but still u should try…I am in NY too and this yr my friend got into columbia with 1800 SAT and a rank of 7/~800 he had many APs and excellent essays though so anything is possible…try cornell too it will be easier than columbia especially as a Newyorker…

You are a sophomore. Please enjoy the rest of high school before concerning yourself with the hells that are collectively known as college admissions.
