I intend to apply as a communications, English, journalism, or classics major.

Any thoughts or recommendations? :)

Your scores are low for the schools you listed (except maybe Pomona and UVA), but your ECs show significant and sustained commitment, which I think will help even your reach schools overlook your academics. Keep doing what you’re doing, and you’ll be pleased in April!

Stanford (REA) - low reach/high match (legacy)
Brown - low reach
Dartmouth - low reach
Harvard - high-mid reach
Princeton - high-mid reach
Pomona - in
UVA - match
UC Berkeley - match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1179664-meow-i-like-princeton-williams-yale-dartmouth-guess-if-they-like-me-back.html</a></p>

Stanford (REA) - high match (legacy)
Brown - low reach
Dartmouth - reach
Harvard - high reach
Princeton - high reach
Pomona - accepted
UVA - match
UC Berkeley - match

the legacy/rea will most likely get you in on top of the other great things on your app.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1178790-cornell-brown-ed-chance-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thanks for the feedback everybody! I really appreciate your time. Keep the opinions coming!

I do have a question, however…what specifically lead you each to rank my chances at the ivies? I think of Dartmouth and Brown to be of the same caliber, and yet you rank them differently. Just curious :)

Shameless bump :)

I think you have a strong chance at the schools you listed. Your sat scores dont make you stand out (but i wouldnt say they are bad) but your commitment in your ECs is awesome and the fact that you seem involved in stanford’s organizations within your ecs is great! just keep up the good grades and you have a fair shot at all of the schools listed. i basically agree with what people have said before me regarding individual schools. also…nice idea on the essay!

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1172307-chance-dartmouth-ed-brown-ed-will-chance-back-2.html</a></p>

I think you have an awesome shot. Good chances that your scores will be overlooked in favor of your ECs. Obviously you REALLY REALLY want to go to Stanford. I think they’ll get the message loud and clear. :)

Oh, and I see where you find the confusion regarding the different ratings between Brown and Dartmouth. While you’re right in some regards, Dartmouth and Brown are both considered lower-tier Ivies, I guess a lot of it is also based on the supposed reputation of the school. To me, Brown was always perceived to be more like a high-ranked liberal arts college (Think Williams or Amherst) with lots of free-spirited and open-minded individuals (of course, the difference here is the connotation of the words “free-spirited” and “open-minded”), whereas Dartmouth was perceived to be more rigid in comparison, business-and-economics oriented (my neighbor is a famous economist and Dartmouth alum), and a little bit of a party-school edge. But also consider the fact that Dartmouth is seemingly always ranked higher than Brown on college rankings like US News and World Report.

Stanford (REA): Match/In
Brown: Match/Low Reach
Dartmouth: Low Reach
Harvard: High Reach (It’s Harvard)
Princeton: Reach (I live close to Princeton, essays count a fair amount from what I’ve heard)
Pomona: In
UVA : In/Match
UC Berkeley: In

Oh and here’s mine: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1181002-chance-me-concerned-junior-will-also-chance-back.html</a></p>

I appreciate the comments!! I also forgot that I intend to apply to USC…also, I am from CA, and I have a perfect 4.0 UW GPA. My class doesn’t rank, but I am definitely at or very, very near the top. Do you think the fact that I am coming from a strange school (I attend one on one classes in which my teachers are like tutors, except they are fully certified teachers and the courses are fully accredited) will hurt my chances?

Stanford-Low/Mid Reach
Brown- Mid/High reach
Harvard-High reach
Princeton-High Reach
Darmouth-Low reach/match
Berkley-in
UVA-in
pomona- inc

EA Stanford and your a definite

with a 4.0 and a 2200 you have a chacne for all these schools and since you in state fro Berkley I would say that is a sure thing but here it goes.

Stanford-probably low reach since your legacy
Brown- Mid reach
Harvard-High reach
Princeton-High Reach
Darmouth-reach as for all ivies
Berkley-high match at best but your probably in
UVA-in
pomona- idk about this school

good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1181151-please-please-please-chance-me-my-shools-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Stanford (REA)- Reach
Brown- Reach
Dartmouth- Low reach
Harvard- Reach
Princeton- Reach
Pomona - High Match
UVA - Match
UC Berkeley- High Match

Just to get it off the bat, I I would say that everyone, no matter what you have done in your past is a reach to Harvard, Princeton and Stanford. Like you could have cured cancer and I would still write reach (I’m exxagerating but w/e). You have some really good stats, your SAT could be a bit higher, but since you’re taking the ACT see how that goes. You SAT IIs are a bit low, but given the circumstances that’s understandable. The biggest and most obvious chink in your armor is the 1 on Bio…do you have to send in all scores to these schools? I don’t know the policy, but if you don’t, make every effort possible to hide that bio score. Your EC’s are very impressive, but even with all of these great stats, I still reccomend finding at least 1 safety, just so that you definitely have somewhere to go to school in case the floor falls through on everything. I think you definitely have a good shot at all of these schools and you’re well within the pack of people applying to those schools, just remember, crazy stuff happens and this is all a crapshoot. So good luck, and chance back :D

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1180619-chances-questions.html</a></p>

I appreciate the feedback, Luckyirish  I do have safeties planned, but if all goes well with Stanford, I likely will not apply to them.

Luckily I do not have to send all of my scores to these schools since I self report AP’s. In any case, I discussed it with my college counselor, and she said not to worry about the 1…especially since I will not be applying as anything even close to a Bio major. I will definitely retake the SAT II’s in October, so I’m not worried about those scores. And I’ve had successes taking ACT practice tests thus far, so I’m hoping that’ll bode well for me.

Anyways, thank you so much :)

The only flaw I see in there is the math SAT score, and I doubt that will hold much weight since your passions seem to lie elsewhere. I love the uniqueness of some of your ECs (personally never heard of anyone doing competitive horseback riding as an EC here in the northeast), and I bet they’ll give you more than a solid shot at a lot of these super-selective schools. Great job and best of luck!

Stanford (REA) - High match
Brown - High match
Dartmouth - High match
Harvard - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Pomona - (don’t really know my LACs…)
UVA - Match
UC Berkeley - Match

Caperi, I’m glad you were able to see why I feel my math score won’t completely ruin my chances  and I appreciate the compliment about my EC’s, although unfortunately not many schools really regard my accomplishments as an equestrian

Thank you very much for the chance! Your feedback is helpful. Any other opinions are welcomed.

Stanford (REA) - high match since your a legacy
Brown - reach
Dartmouth - reach
Harvard - high reach
Princeton - high reach
Pomona - in
UVA - match
UC Berkeley - match

Good luck!! :)

While your scores are average, your extracurriculars are great. I would say you have a decent shot with the exception of Harvard and Princeton, they are real crapshoots. Good luck!

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1182045-its-early-but-what-heck-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

You should try to improve your SAT I to 2300+ range to be competitive for Ivy Leagues & should definitely retake SAT II’s, shooting for 750+'s.
On the other hand, you EC’s are absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Nice focus  I’m jealous.
You’ve done a lot with Stanford and you’re a legacy, so I think your chances for that are pretty great, especially if you’re applying early.

As for the others,
Brown - match
Dartmouth - match
Harvard - Reach (but they like focused applicants, so you never know  )
Princeton - Reach
Pomona - not sure…no previous knowledge of the admission process/ what they look for
UVA - Match
UC Berkeley - Match

Help me out?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1181604-yale-harvard-princeton-ea.html</a></p>

You’re done. Stop this thread and Chance mine everyone. You know why? Legacy=you got in to stanford. So stop there.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1182355-please-c-h-n-c-e-me.html#post12969373</a></p>

I’ve only done research on Brown (I’m interested in it, too), so that’s the only school I can give any type of feedback on. As far as ECs go, you’re golden in my opinion–I envy your photography talent! I’ve read that Brown’s really into ECs, so that should help accomodate for any weaknesses in your app. I think you could do with a boost, standardized test wise. Try to get a score higher than 750 on another SAT II. But if you’ve only taken the SAT once, you might consider trying for a 700+ math score. I’m sure, though, that people have gotten into Brown with scores similar to yours.

If you like, take a look at my board (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1182145-chance-am-i-competitive-ed-ea-yale-brown.html</a>). I’m simply wondering if I’m competitive enough to shoot for an early admission. Good luck to you!

Now that I think about it, if you have other areas you’d rather focus energy into, don’t stress the SAT I. Your score puts you in the ballpark for the ivy league; once you’re there, it comes down to the rest of your application. I was just on the 2015 ED Brown admission thread, and there were kids with 2300+ that didn’t get in, and there were kids with 2200s that did.
