Okay so the schools I'm looking at (aware some are total reaches)

UVa (EA) (Legacy)
UChicago (EA)
Columbia (ED)
Duke (Legacy)
NYU (Legacy)
Tufts
Emory
UPenn
U of Minn
UW-Madison

Thanks guys!

What is you legacy exactly at those schools? Is it parents/grandparents? Or aunts and uncles? The reason I’m asking this is because the institutions that you are a legacy at only (to the best of my knowledge) consider legacy if it’s parents. Regardless of the legacy issue here is my opinion. You have mediocre GPA, solid test scores and ecs. I’d give Minnesota, Wisconsin, And tufts a match. Emory and NYU a high match. Penn, Chicago, UVA, and Columbia low reach. Duke is a stretch because of your uw GPA. That is my opinion. I’m kinda jealous of your ecs! All very cool! Best of luck! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567485-chance-me-duke-ed.html</a></p>

Yep, it’s parents legacy :slight_smile: my dad got BA from UVa, masters from NYU, PhD from Duke. and i’ll chance you in a bit, thanks for your input!

The parent legacy at duke will bump it to a low reach then I believe.

bump bump bumppp

Is your gpa near the top relative to others at your school? Your class rank would indicate that. If you send a school report and it explains how hard it is to get a 4.0 or even a 3.9 at your school then I’d say you have a better shot. I’d say Duke penn Columbia and Chicago are reaches but the others you have a pretty nice shot of getting in.

Chance me back?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1568205-new-scores-chance-me-georgia-tech-ea.html</a></p>

You have great test scores on both the SAT and the subject tests. Your GPA isn’t exactly Ivy League material, but as dirtysocks said, if your school is more difficult than others, you have a good shot. You have great ECs and AP scores. They look for more than just GPA and test scores. It also helps if you have a rising grade trend and the strength of your senior schedule (which is strong).

I think NYU and Emory are both matches. As for Duke, UPenn, and Columbia, it can really depend. I would say you are a mid-reach and high match depending on how your interviews go and the strength of your essays. Being a legacy will definitely help!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569158-florida-state-university-chance-me.html</a> Chance me back?

Agree with hattonkelly. Your GPA is slightly low, but I think your great EC’s will definitely make up for it. Once you reach a certain range for GPA, they consider you the same.

NYU, Emory - Match
Duke, UPenn, Columbia - High Match, Low Reach, Mid Reach

Nail the essays, and I think you’ll be great! :)

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1568978-chance-top-tier-colleges-hypsm.html</a></p>

I’m kind of surprised you didn’t include Middlebury. Look into Carleton and Macalester in addition to U of M (Honors, I assume?). Include Dickinson, Vassar, Vanderbilt (great French programs).

UVa (EA) (Legacy) = within reach but your GPA will hurt you
UChicago (EA) = high reach, polish those essays
Columbia (ED) = reach (due to ED) high reach otherwise - are you applying to the Sciences Po/Columbia program
Duke (Legacy) = within reach due to legacy
NYU (Legacy)= within reach due to legacy
Tufts = low reach
Emory = reach
UPenn = high reach
U of Minn = safety
UW-Madison = safety

Thanks for your input everyone :slight_smile: bumpppppp for some more feedback? :)

And myos, I’m currently living in the town Carleton’s in, so I’m eager to get out of here. And I visited Mac and didn’t like it much unfortunately. But your other suggestions are much appreciated!

UVa (EA) (Legacy) = low reach
UChicago (EA) = high reach, its really selective and your GPA will hurt
Columbia (ED) = high reach, ED might help a bit but im not sure
Duke (Legacy) = low reach
NYU (Legacy)= low reach
Tufts = high match
Emory = low reach
UPenn = reach
U of Minn = your in
UW-Madison = your in
Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1570453-chances-get-into-upenn-duke-johns-hopkins.html</a></p>

UVa (EA) (Legacy)- Within reach
UChicago (EA)- Reach-highish reach
Columbia (ED)-Reach
Duke (Legacy)-Low Reach
NYU (Legacy)-Match
Tufts-High match
Emory-high match
UPenn-reach
U of Minn-low match
UW-Madison-mid/low match

Overall, you seem to be a very solid applicant. While the gpa is a tad bit low, I don’t think it’s that out of range to cause serious problems. As other have said, write some great essays!
