Your chances are none if you can’t learn to spell “Nobel” right.

If you’ve already decided to apply ED, then what’s the point of posting a chances thread? You already know that you have a good chance at getting into Rice, which means that all you’re doing here is seeking validation. Nobody here has any better of an idea as to whether you’ll get in than you do.

depends on how persuasive you are in your essays

Okay, I’ll bite. I wouldn’t be willing to say your ECs are outstanding, per se (I don’t put too much credence into community service TBH), but holistically I would very much doubt that you wouldn’t get accepted - particularly under ED.

So if you wanted validation, there you go. I’m sure you’re planning on applying elsewhere, though… the essays and such are extremely important, regardless. So make sure to take it seriously.

I think your chances are good. However, applying to Rice or any other top university is a crapshoot. No one on this board is qualified to tell you whether you have a good chance or not… we are not admissions officers. Apply, and the worst that happens is that you don’t get in. So, in order to be prepared, create a list of “matches and safeties” in case you don’t get into Rice.

I wouldn’t be so quick to call Rice a crapshoot. Although it’s a top university, it’s fairly predictable when compared to HYPSM. You can pretty much tell if someone has got what it takes to get in – not that that makes Rice any worse for being as such.

I’m a guy who’s gonna apply RD myself so i can’t really give you any groundbreaking insight on what your chances are, but IMO, if you get your ACT score up a little bit (maybe a 32 - 34 composite) and rock the essays, you’re in. Again, my ethos isn’t very high on this one, but I’d say your SAT II’s, your GPA, and your AP Course load is on track for admission.

Your grades and courses are excellent though I’m a little surprised that with all those weighted courses your weighted GPA isn’t more around a 4.5. The ACT score is a little below average though; if you have the chance, you might want to try to get it around 33. Extracurriculars are good, if of somewhat standard with the exception of the banking experience. In my opinion, you have a very good chance if you ED. But then again, chemical engineering might be a popular major since Rice is very highly regarded for it. Did you do well on your APs? I have a friend who had similar stats who got waitlisted RD, but she goes to a very competitive east coast school where the majority of students are already above average caliber, so it was stiff competition for the top schools. Thus location might matter somewhat. Also, as said in a previous post, essays are very important and Rice has a number of essays and short responses. Make sure to showcase what is unique. I’m pretty sure my essays were what got me into Duke and merit money from Rice. I thought Rice offered a better experience in the end though. xD
