Trying to get into Engineering, if i dont get in i will prob try business school only if it is a top 10 program. Took all AP and honors classes

I actually think you should get into all these schools fairly easily. Your resume is EXCELLENT and your scores are very good. Have you thought about possibly applying to more of a “reach” school as well? You may have a shot! good luck!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1007698-chance-me-please-ill-chance-you.html</a></p>

Thanks! I’m just worried about my gpa and class ranking because i’m in the bottom 50% of my class and have a 3.2 weighted gpa. i got mostly 70-80’s in my classes.

you might have trouble at michigan and illinois, but matches and high matches everywhere else http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1015320-chance-me-top-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Very impressive resume and standardized test scores. I’m not sure about what happened to your GPA, but unfortunately it might hold you back from Michigan at least, unless there was an extenuating circumstance you mention in your essay. Otherwise, most of the schools look safe/match and I agree that if your essay/explanation of the gpa is well done, you should try for a couple reach schools.

Chance me back please!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1017468-am-i-over-my-head.html</a></p>

umich engineering is hard so i think that will be unlikely. dunno abt the others
gpa is definitely gonna hurt a lot but if you have some reason (like family illnesses or deaths), then that should lessen its impact. ECs seem pretty good but i dunno if colleges count prehighschool things. anyways good luck and you should get into a bunch of the schools on your list

Your GPA is on the low end for OOS publics.

I gotta agree with Haloshots here. You’ve got a really amazing transcript, but your weak point is going to be your GPA. your sat superscore is good for OOS publics, but with the GPA it might be a gamble; public universities usually place more import on SAT scores and GPA than private universities.

You do realize that your EC’s have to be from the last four years of high school only?? This means most of your EC’s don’t get considered. I love your volunteer experience though!(Potential essay topic??)
Your class rank and SAT is not too good either. This makes Mich and Illinois reaches for you. But I wouldn’t be too worried about the rest. You’re good for them.

Could you chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1018237-early-tension-should-yale-ea-brown-ed-dartmouth-columbia.html</a></p>

One note about the music awards, I was granted asst. principle violin at the all-state honors orchestra and have won a lot of competitions but I don’t think either of our musical awards will do much unless you’re planning on major/minoring in music (I’m not.)

Volunteer experience is a plus and I think the people above me got it about right.

yeah lol thanks. sucks that we spent so much time on it. i heard they do want students with a talent but i see your point. it definently dosent hurt though/

Yeah honestly, musical instruments are just too common among Asians.

Those music awards, while numerous and intimidating at first glance, seem to be pretty unsubstantial. Your GPA and class rank are holding you back the most, although I would say that your relatively high SAT scores could testify to the difficulty of your school. Michigan seems like a reach to me.

i’ve also applied for early action so does that change anything?

I would definitely say that you have a good chance of getting in to those schools, I’d guess somewhere around 60% (keeping in mind that the highest I’d EVER rate would be like 85%, because nothing is a sure bet these days). I’d almost guarantee that you will get into at least one. However, I would agree with talladega in that not all of your musical awards are particularly impressive. As a pianist of over fifteen years, even I have no idea what a “Vivace Award” is- what’s the context? I’d be careful of overflooding your resume with lists. You don’t want your profile to be a laundry list of accomplishments- show them you care about more than just picking up titles.

lol the vivace award was an award that my piano teacher gave lol. i know its a bs award but i didn’t have too many of them, just like 3. the rest were legit recognized awards though.

thanks for all the encouragement and honest criticism guys, but please keep in mind i’m in the bottom half of my class. i took 11 AP’s though and was in all honors courses except alg II and precalculus and physics. alsdo my gpa is a 3.27 which i’m pretty worried about (and rightly so)

University of Michigan at ann arbor - Reach
Penn State - Safety

Sorry, but I’m unfamiliar with the other schools you’re applying to. :(

Chance me?
