*Animal science/Environmental Club (9th grade VP, 10-12th President)

*Apprenticeship with the owner of Somerset Virtual Academy developing social justice and civic leadership curriculum (11th-12th grade; he and I aren’t sure just yet if we’ll describe my position as an intern or something else, but for right now, it’s just an apprenticeship I suppose)
*My school is sponsoring me to send me to a developing part of Costa Rica to volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center for 3 weeks at the end of this summer

Awards:
National Merit Scholar semifinalist; I wont find out if I’m a finalist for another year
AP Scholar with distinction

Chances for:
Cornell CALS as an Animal Science major
Duke as an Evolutionary Anthropology major
UPenn in the college as a Biological Basis of Behavior major

Concerns:
I haven’t taken 4 consecutive years of a language. Ive taken/will have taken 3 years of spanish at my school, and as well as at local colleges. However, the 3 classes I will have completed at local CCs correspond directly with the curriculum in my HS. So its more or less like taking spanish 1, 2, and 3 twice. I’ve never taken a higher level chemistry course, only chem honors. The AP chem teacher at my school is CRAZY and I dont think I’d do well in that class. I’m considering taking chem at a local college in the fall, but how important would it be that I do that? Lastly, is my lack of awards going to be a major issue?

I’ll chance back!!

great chance for all, and your urm status helps

These three are all hard to get in but you are a def. qualified candidate. Particularly, your legacy status in UPenn will help. Unless your essays and recom letters are bad, your chances are a bit higher than others, but make sure to have back up matches and safeties

looks like a match for all!

lol dont at all trust the above post^^ No one, I repeat, NO ONE is a match for ivies. Hence I`d say a low reach for you
However, you look like a strong candidate. Be sure to higlight you passion towards animals in your essay, because you have stuck to it through high school. But dont be too disappointed if you get a rejection. Unfortunately, ivies are always unpredictable. You look like a high match to duke

Honestly, I think you are fine with the 3 years of Spanish, it would’ve been nice to have 4, but oh well, so it goes

I LOVE your animal dedication (though more of a dog person myself - I hate cats!), and I’m glad you found a passion; this should especially serve you well with Cornell, because of your demonstrated interest in animals. Also, impressive College-level courses: rigor is definitely not an issue.

URM should also help, and SAT is good enough, so I think you are in a pretty good place my friend, just keep going!

Duke, Cornell, UPenn - all low reaches, maybe very high match for Cornell (I agree with the poster above, no one is a match for the Ivies, but you are very competitive)

Please return the favor!

maybe I’ll see you at Duke in the future lol

I responded to both of your threads.

Good chance for upenn, not quite too sure about the others.

chance me back for UC Irvine, UCSB, and Pepperdine University? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18218465#Comment_18218465

Cornell is the only somewhat reach, otherwise you’re a great candidate. Good luck!

Chance me please!

Im not too familiar with UW-Madison, but I tried anyways @healthandmusic‌ And i did yours as well @ItsHydro‌

bump

I think you have a very good chance of getting in

you’ll probably get all of them

Good chance for most of them! Duke will probably be the toughest one but good luck!

I think you have a great chance at all of them. If you take the math II though make sure to get higher than a 700… So many people do well on that test you’ve gotta score great as well. ie 15% of the people who take it get an 800.

I’d say due to your love of animals, Cornell is your best bet by far. UPENN is quite likely but I’m not sure about Duke.

WOW I’m so impressed by your app!!! Cornell should be a good shot as should UPenn. Duke, not as much. ALSO, I would consider EDing to UPenn because they strongly prioritize ED applicants! Chance me back?

Cornell and UPENN both are good chances for you. Duke may be a little harder due to a much tougher admissions committee and their preference for legacies. HOWEVER, you are still very competitive and as long as your essays are the “bomb diggity” you will be fine.

Side note: Your teachers will allow you to write your recs? Don’t you feel its a little deceiving? I’m not condemning you just genuinely curious.

@ArmyofOne‌ In response to the recs, worse things have happened, I guess. The letter isn’t sent without their consent anyways, of course. I see where you’re coming from though. It’s also really weird writing your own rec letter. One of the most uncomfortably narcissistic things one can do.

In what ways do you consider Duke’s admission committee to be tougher?

@ArmyofOne‌ also, I’ll do your chance tomorrow, Im gonna get to sleep now. PM me if I forget!!
