***Chance me and I'll chance you back***

Hi everyone. I posted a bit ago and got some feedback but i'd like some more :P So I've been stalking CC for a while now, trying to get a feel for what I should be expecting as a senior next year. I plan on majoring in chemical engineering/chemistry. So here are my stats, and it would be awesome if you could recommend schools I should apply to! I'm thinking of Carnegie Mellon ED in MCS or CIT, NYU, UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, UF, Emory, yada yada....

SAT: 2200 (800 M, 700W, 700CR) I am taking it again though
SATII: 800 Math 2, taking chem in may
ACT: N/A
GPA: 3.6 UW(cringe) 3.75 w/o freshman year, 4.5 W 4.7W w/o freshman year
Rank: Top 9%
Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): APES (4), Macro (4), AP Comp Gov and Poli (4), Stats (4), Bio (3), Chem (5), Comp Sci (5), APUSH (5), 92 AMC 12B

Will have taken 16 AP's when I graduate

-NHS, Spanish Honor Society, National Technical Society and Math Honor Society all 1 year (can only join Junior year)

Extra Info:

-Would be awesome if I could get an interview because I think i'd do great
-$70-75K income
-Essays should be pretty good
-Recs should be amazing from teachers

Thanks so much! And I will chance back!

CMU - low reach/ high match
NYU - match
UCLA - match
Berkeley - high match
USC - low match
UF - safety
Emory - high match

I think you should look into some other schools that would be more of low-reach / reaches (CalTech, Cornell, MIT)

Chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1636782-chance-me-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

@d0texe‌ Thanks! Haha I wish I could get into MIT :stuck_out_tongue: but CalTech and Cornell maybe! Chanced back

You definitely have a chance!

@d0texe‌ Not with my GPA  Thanks for the support though c:

CMU - Low Reach
NYU - Low Match/Match
UCLA - match
Berkeley - match/reach They’re really random in admissions
USC - High Match
UF - safety
Emory - Low Reach

Take a look into UCB, UCSD, and UCD (Davis if you’re not opposed to rural areas)
Your SAT looks nice, maybe get the critical reading up to a 730 at least, preferably 750. I think that’d be excellent.
Math II- GREAT JOB! Aim for 750+ on the other, and you are set
GPA is a weak point, but considering course rigor, is not THAT bad. I’m sorry to tell you, though, that UC’s REALLY care about GPA.
AP scores look pretty good, too. I know that they’re not too big a factor in college admissions (unless you self studied), but you still did very well and obviously this will be significant (because of the sheer # of tests you’ve taken!)
I’d say the ECs are good, but not great or excellent. You can make up for this, though, with a great essay. You don’t need to write some sob story, nor does it need to be the most beautiful masterpiece ever written. Just write about you and what makes you (sorry for the cliche) unique. Get it got it!?
Best of luck. If you need any advice, don’t hesitate to message me. I just finished this process, so I know what it’s all about.
All in all, I’d say UCLA, UCB, CMU, Emory are high match, maybe low reach. NYU is a match, and UF low match. Of the schools I mentioned about UCSD is a high match, and Davis is a Match. Good luck :)

Heres what I think:
CMU - low reach
NYU - match
UCLA - match
Berkeley - high match
USC - high match
UF - safety
Emory - match

@noel597‌ Thank you so much for your thorough answer! Yeah, I really screwed up freshman year and didn’t try harder sophmore year… but I got 5 A’s and 1 B in junior year! Is there any way I can make my EC’s even better this summer? I am already working at the lab, but would going to a math/research camp help at all? Haha yeah, I hope that my essay’s will truly convey who I am. I’m really interested in CMU because of their integration of arts and sciences :stuck_out_tongue:
Do you think I could get into 1 or two of the high match/low reaches? Also I saw that you got into many great colleges (congrats btw  ). What kind of EC’s did you have? If you don’t mind my asking

Thanks to the other two! Chanced back

CMU is a low reach
UCB is low reach
Rest are matches
chance- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1636322-chance-for-bachelors-of-science-nurse-bsn-undergrad-colleges.html#latest</a></p>

Your SAT is good enough, but it would help if you improved it to counteract you UW GPA. Your EC’s are good.
CM: high match/low reach
Berkeley: hog match/low reach
NYU: match
UCLA: match
USC: match
Emory: match
UF: low match

Chance back
<a href=“Chances for UVA and Vanderbilt. Will chance back. - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1634747-chances-for-uva-and-vanderbilt-will-chance-back-p1.html</a></p>

@spiritkoi Go ahead and PM me and I can let you know some of my EC’s.
Working in a lab, really, and any research is amazing. One of my weaknesses was not having any research experience whatsoever.
I wouldn’t recommend starting a new activity (it looks like you’re trying to rack on stuff). Rather, either expand your role in organizations you’re already a part of. I don’t mean becoming president, but maybe initiating a meaningful project or movement.
I’d say out of those 4 that I specified as high match to low reach, I’d put money that you get into @ least one. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into two, either. I think that out of them, Emory would be the most likely. :)

Thanks! Chanced back
@noel597‌ Okay, sounds good!
So I am on the math team and have done well, but not as well as some people (qualifying for USAMO for example). So I wouldn’t be starting a new activity per se, more of exploring it more by going to USA/Canada Mathcamp and pursuing the science/math that I like. And I totally agree with expanding my role, NHS elections and MAO elections are coming up so I will try to run for a leadership position, and I already do a lot of volunteering and organizing events for them.
Awesome  Do you think applying ED to any of those low reach schools would improve my chances?
