If you chance me, Ill chance you (If you post your stats)...this is for Columbia ED:

What are my chances of getting accepted to Columbia University (Columbia College)?

SAT: 1890(Retaking SAT in Nov. and sending it to Columbia...expecting a 2000+)
SAT II: Chem 700 & Math II 610

I wrote a strong essay IMO
I have strong recommendation letters (One of the recommendation letter was from a teacher that graduated form Columbia...not sure if that helps)
Im Egyptian (Dual citizenship: Egy. and US), goes to a very competitive HS, and lives in NYC.

I am also going to have an interview with a Columbia Alumni next week.

P.S.: MY school doesn't report rankings:

"Consistent with most NCSSSMST Schools, students at xxxxxx high school are not publicly ranked. The only ranking conducted is for the top ten students during the valedictorian selection process. Individual ranks are never released to students or the public. "

Not much leadership, and your standardized scores are obviously low.

I don’t know much else to say…Egypt/U.S. citizenship could be a hook, but only if you employ it in the right way (i.e. I’m assuming your essay somehow concerns cultural diversity?)

Anyway, good luck (: Don’t get too down about your scores, they’re good, just not exceptional.

Here I am:

Recs: should be excellent
Essay: about my first day of school in america pretty poignant imo

@Natalie: No my essay was about a significant moment in my life (my “turning point”).

As for you…your stats speak for themselves…I would say match, but in a way Ivys are sometimes random so Ill just say you have a very high chance :)

@Kayrizzles: Yeah…I’m hoping my Nov. SAT would possibly compensate for my low SATs.

Once again you have a very high chance.

@DankTank: My GPA is relatively good considering that I go to one of the most competeive HSs in the USA. But yeah, my SATs are my weakness >.<

Lolz at the notion of Columbia being a match for anyone. Sorry – this is a school that rejects a fair share of valedictorians, and will perhaps this year have a single-digit admit rate. It’s a reach for all.

I think the fact that yo had no leadership positions in you ECs is you downfall, but you are not out of the running so keep your head held high.

here’s me:

Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
School Type: Public
State: CA
ACT: 29 (retook it in Oct)
SAT IIs: 720 US; 650 Lit (retook but scores are not yet in)
GPA: 4.37/4
AP: Lang (4), US (5), Euro (4), Enviro (4), french lang (2)
Rank: Doesn’t rank but I am in the “second decile”
ECs: President of ___(School’s name) Peer Help Program, was Secretary of Volleyball Club, Varsity Volleyball (4 letters), Competitive club Volleyball, member of Key Club, member of Africa Awareness club, member of Bakery club
Honors: AP Scholar and School’s honor roll

Note: though my ecs are pretty much sports, i am not a recruited athlete.

oh forgot to say i worte my essay about my internship with the local newspaper (which is also the ec i fogot to add). my rec letters should be ok

@Doesn’t helping at a local pharamacy or library have any value (considering. That is was completely out of school)? And snap…I am also in my schools honor roll…but I didn’t think of it as an “honor” (that was worthy enough"…should I contact Columbia? :S

You have a pretty decent shot. Solid ECs…prez of your school and Very good scores. Good luck.

update though, my SAT superscore has ended up being an 1830. and i’m not reporter in NHS anymore. that’s all.

as for your chances, i don’t mean to be harsh but just reading the stats that you’ve posted i don’t see anything that really…stand out. other than the library and pharmacy work. make sure that your essay/short answer question is very strong and comes from the heart. SAT scores hinder applicants like us, but i’m a vehement believer in that passion can make up for it. good luck!

I have a question that I would love if anyone could answer:

Since my freshman year I had started a website. I was devoted to this site (a forum) and I still own it to this day. Proof of my dedication is that the host gave me a real domain (e.g: www.websitename.com ) for free…as an encouragement to this dedication.

Should I mention this in my upcoming Columbia interview?

Thanks photographer! I really wanted to write it on the common app…but it doesn’t exactly fit the “traditional” EC…so I just didn’t write it. Hopefully my interviewer will pass the info. to Columbia’s office of undergrad admissions :S
