Overall: I have taken 8.5 AP classes and 2.5 Honors classes

My SAT: 2170 (650 for Critical Reading, 740 for Math, 780 for Writing)

Also, I took a subject test in Biology (molecular): 690
I also took 5 other ones, but the scores are all terrible (all are 640) so I am not submitting those to any of the schools, except for Cornell due to their policy against Score Choice.

My essays were deemed pretty amazing, as I ran them all by two english teachers and both of my parents. My personal statement for the Common App was talking of a situation where I showed leadership and was able to take another step further into my recovery. It also showed how the situation was able to change me as a person into a more responsible adult.

Extra-curriculars:

  • 4 years of Cross-Country JV
  • 2 years of Track and Field JV
  • 2 years as Secretary of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illnesses)
  • 1 year as Secretary of Green Club
  • 3 years of operation of a Poetry Blog

Awards:

  • Honor Role for all four years
  • Most Improved for Cross Country during my Sophomore Year
  • “Ole’ Reliable” for playing trombone in Band during my freshman year (1st chair)

Although my school doesn’t rank, I am almost certain that I am in the top 10% of my class
Also, my school is ranked 102 in California and 528 in the US

If you give me an estimate on the schools I provided, I will help you back

For most schools, I have two teacher (both English) letters of recommendation and 1 professor (at UCSD course I took in psychology). However, for Cornell, I had a family member write a letter of recommendation on top of all the previous ones listed (she graduated in 2004 summa cum laude and fourth in her class; also, she married into a family, assuming her husband’s last name, that possesses about 5 Cornell graduates).

UC Los Angeles - low reach
UC Berkeley - low reach
UC San Diego - admit
UC Davis - admit
UC Irvine - admit
UC Santa Barbara - admit

Cornell University - high reach
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) - low reach

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO) - admit
Reed College - admit
University of Washington (Seattle) - admit

Low level of extracurricular involvement is gonna make it harder at most schools. The UCs place much more emphasis on grades and test scores and ability to pay, and care much less about hooks and ECs than a lot of other schools, so you have much better chances there. Unfortunately, schools like Cornell are very serious when they say they look at applications “holistically,” and because of that I think it’ll be very hard to gain admission there. At lower tier schools, I think your significant academic accomplishments will be sufficient, and they will gladly look past low EC involvement.

Cornell University: declined

Reed College: waitlist/accept/decline (this school has no clue to chance)
University of Washington (Seattle): accept

I think you have a good chance on UC schools. Your GPA, course rigorousness and ECs are fine. My suggestion is to improve your SAT Critical Reading + Math score (unfortunately Cornell doesn’t look at writing part. you will be decent with a 1450 CR+M).

You said your CA statement was about recovery, how strong, 1-10, did you feel about it?

Also please chance back

Thx for the response! And I would say my statement is a 10/10. I worked on it for months and sent it to about 10 people. Also, the Cornell and UC supplements were amazing. Not bragging, but I’m just uber confident in them

@jackisawesome Well in that case I’d still say its a reach for Berkeley/Cornell, but you have a decent shot at both nonetheless!

Thanks :))))) I just did your chance me as well

UC Los Angeles - high match
UC Berkeley - reach
UC San Diego - match
UC Davis - match
UC Irvine - low match
UC Santa Barbara - match
Boston University - this ones hard, it’s been all over the place recently
Cornell University - reach
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) - low reach
University of Wisconsin (Madison) - low match
Ohio State University (Columbus) - harder if OOS I think I really don’t know - but you’re safe anyway haha
University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) DID EARLY ACTION - low reach
University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) >>>> already accepted - nice!
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO) - idk
Reed College - low match
University of Washington (Seattle) - low match

solid list really- you’re very career minded in your ECs and some academics so I think you have a good shot at all your schools, even the harder-to-get-in ones.

chance me back please?

Also, just for additional info, my SAT score is not super-scored. Additionally, as I took the SAT three times, I improved in every section, every time. I don’t know if this will matter at all; however, I just forgot to put this on the above “resume.”

UC Los Angeles / admit
UC Berkeley / admit if psychology
UC San Diego / admit
UC Davis / admit
UC Irvine / admit
UC Santa Barbara / admit
Boston University / admit
Cornell University / too much of a reach. make sure your essays are amazing
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) / admit
University of Wisconsin (Madison) / not sure why you’re applying there
Ohio State University (Columbus) / 80% admit, they’re very random
University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) DID EARLY ACTION / admit
University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) >>>> already accepted / obviously
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO) / admit / Best Match imo
Reed College / no idea whatsoever
University of Washington (Seattle) / admit

In at all except maybe Berkeley, LA, and Cornell. You have a pretty good shot for both LA and Berkeley though but its very situational
