Hey Lima Beans. I think you are practically in UVA considering your awesome stats and ECs - it can definitely be your safety. I also think you have a solid chance at HYP considering your involvement in FBLA and volunteering. Your SATs and stuff clearly put you in the running for the top schools but as the posters above me have said, its almost impossible to know for sure. Good luck.

I definately think UVA, Georgetown, and Duke are in the bag. You have a really good shot at getting into Princeton and a good shot at getting into Harvard and Yale too. To be honest, I wouldnt be suprised if you got into all those schools!

Since you are in state, i would def say in at UVA. The other people that have posted already have pretty much said it all in that you have a shot at all your reaches (Duke only a slight reach), but its obviously a crapshoot. Great GPA and SAT.

Elite Nemesis, you have great ecs. I can tell you are very debate/model UN focused, and have lots of leadership roles. Being in debate myself, I know how hard it is to be ranked highly at tournaments.

I think you’ll be in a georgetown, harvard’s a reach for anyone, columbia is a lower reach, and I’m not sure of the others.

By the way, was that foreign essay contest the AFSA one? I entered that one this year.

Worst Bad Boy, I think you have really good chances. You show a focus in science/math, and have a bunch of awards in that field.

I think the professional fish breeder thing is really unique and interesting. It really stands out in your app to me and kind of ties in with your focus. Plus your class rank is awesome!

Lima_Bean, I think that you have a great shot at all the schools you are applying to. Your ECs, though diversified, show focus and passion in specific areas, which is always what adcoms want to see. I agree with what others have said about Georgetown being great for International Relations. Of course, you never know about HYP, but I would definately say you would be a strong applicant.

PML, I’m not too familiar with your list of schools (besides UVA), I think the one thing you should do is try to raise your SATs. The austrailia exchange thing sounds awesome. I know adcoms will like that because it shows you are really passionate about learning. I mean, not every teenager would be willing to live in a foreign environment for half a year. UVA will probably be a reach, but good luck!

GPA, you have a lot of APs! Your courseload is really hard! The dance/hip hop is also really unique. You should probably try to phrase it in a way that shows your dedication and hard work to it, so it doesn’t sound like you are just playing around.

Definitely mention the environmental stuff you do, as part of the whole volunteer aspect.

Oh, and being first gen. will help you. Stanford and Duke are reaches (as for just about everyone). maybe Uchicago is a high match/low reach?

ivy_crazy, I think you have a great shot at all of the schools. The Shakespeare paper publication and all your other essay stuff is a hook and also fits in quite nicely with your projected history/english major.

Your scores and class rank will help you and legacy works in your favor too. I think you’ll be in at most schools, but have a few safeties just in case.

Shore, it will be hard to get in because you are an international, but I think you have some good things going on, like being ranked nationally for chess. Your grades are good and your ec’s clearly show that you are involved, but maybe try to have a focus. They are kind of scattered. Obviously ivies are reaches for everyone, but you should apply if you want.

Shore, just try to find a focus for your ec’s. Though they are very good, they seem sort of random. Try to group them together to define your interests.

you are definitely in at uva and duke (95% sure) too.
i think you have a very excellent shot at hyp but they’re never a sure thing for anyone. i know a lot of kids with your exact stats who got into yale/harvard so I think if you project yourself well in your essays and great amazing recs you will get admission to an ivy. btw i somehow feel like the ‘excellent volunteer’ thing you got is a great thing, but I’m not sure if its necessary.
good luck!

I don’t have crazy/amazing/insane stats like most of the people on CC lol

3.5 uw GPA (3.41 uw with just academic classes)
My rank is 85/725 kids. (around top 11-12%)

So, I was wondering can I still have somewhat of a shot at these schools?
NYU, BU, Sarah Lawrence, Barnard (early decision?), Emory, George Washington U, or other schools of that caliber in general?

There was a big dip in my grades during sophomore yr which my guidance counselor will explain (illness). I know they are all reaches because of my rank, and my SAT scores are decent (but not amazing):

1400 (just math + reading)/ together its a 2110
math - 670
critical reading - 730
writing - 710
i got a 31 on my ACTs but I don’t know if I’ll submit that

i have 250 volunteering hours
My school is a good, competitive public school.
I don’t know if it matters but I’m hispanic.

my activities are pretty good and show a focus/some leadership, but they aren’t insane like i didn’t cure cancer or win national awards .

I dont think duke would be hard for you at all, match or slight reach heres my stats
ok I am currently trying to transfer from North Shore community college, I have earned a 2.17 from 1st semester and a 2.75 from this semester I am trying to transfer to Mount Ida, Curry College, Merrimack College, Salem State, and Gordon. I have a great reccomentdation letter from a ph.d proffesor and a great college essay, since I am transferring some school want my high school transcript, which I did really bad in high school, so what are my chances, also I have improved from high school and north shore drastically like 1.2 then northshore 2.17 then 2.75 and my total gpa is 2.46 from North Shore. thank you

Orange, I think you have pretty good chances for some of those schools. Being hispanic will definitely work in your favor, you have good volunteering, and if your guidance c. can explain your dip in grades, that will really help. You didn’t go into detail about ec’s, but you said you show leadership which is good. Also, your SAT’s are decent, like you said.
