Questions:
How many credit hours do you need at Duke to be classified as a Sophomore?
Also is it better to send either the ACT or SAT? Or should I just send both?

ok. well honestly it will be very difficult for you to get in, it will be an uphill battle, but you still have a chance. So you can work with that. your class rank is pretty low. remember that more than half of valedictorians and more than half of people with 800’s on both the verbal and math section of the SAT get denied every year.

Also, your test scores are ok, but not that high. The math and verbal are good, but not great. The writing is very low, but I dont know how much it matters as compared to the other two scores. But it still matters. your act score is ok. BUt usually you would need a 32/33+ to be competitive (i.e. an average applicant who gets admitted). It doesnt matter if you send act or sat, they will jsut pay attention to the highest score. Also, they will see your SAT no matter what because you need to send in your SAT II scores. Unless they changed it and you can withhold some scores. Pratt on average admits applicants with higher test scores than trinity applicants, even though they have a higher acceptance rate. this is because more qualified applicants apply on average to pratt.

Also, how many AP courses does your school have? you seem to be pretty light with the AP math/sciences for pratt. If your school doesnt offer more AP classes, then you are fine. But if they do, then they will question why you havent taken advantage of tougher courses. 4 AP courses is not many at all.

your EC’s are ok. but you dont have much community experience/other stuff to make up for your low class rank/test scores. a lot of lacrosse, which is good. Are you by any chance trying to get recruited by the lax team? If yes, then this changes everything and it just really matters if they coach wants you or not. Then, your grades are high enough to get in I would say.

also, you cannot test out of classes at duke (or any other top 10-15 school). Every needs to take 34 credits to graduate. There arent hours at duke, just single credits for every class. The point of AP credits are to get into higher level classes, not to have fewer credits to graduate. So, you cannot be classified as a sophomore until after you take 8 courses at Duke.

this is just advice based on what you have put up there. I dont know if there is any other life circumstance or life experience that could positively affect your chances. or if you have an extreme uphill trend in grades, etc.

but good luck!
