I think my Essays are well written. They're both pretty unique and I'm confident in my writing skills.

Couple questions:
So I know my class rank/GPA are not that high...but thats largely a result of a poor freshman year, will they weight that in? For example my GPA(estimate) for this first semester of my senior year is a 4.4

Should I write an essay C even though I haven't had any large hardships? But I am a minority (Lebanese American) and my parents are both immigrants...

Is there anyway to set up an interview with UT? Will contacting my admissions counselor help at all?

Lastly, any last ditch things I could do this week to better my chances, or should I go ahead and submit my app?

...oh, this is kinda irrelevant, but my brother is in the Dean Scholars program, will that help my chances at all? I've heard mixed messages about that.

Thanks!

Essay C doesn't have to be about hardships READ THE PROMPT (EVERY WORD OF IT). You can also write about something that has made you a better person and such.

Oh I see, good point. So what do you think of my chances?

bumb, anyone?

So many views, no replies?

Almost the same stats as mine but I have a higher GPA. What's your full SAT score as UT will start looking at the Writing section this year.

Your chances depends on what you want to major in. If Eng. or Business, it's definitely a high reach. If Liberal Arts or Natural sciences I'd say low reach.

Bahh, I just want to get in! Let's hope we have luck on our side!

Hmm, I don't know much about how UT runs these things since I'm an automatic admit, but your EC's are better than anything I've seen at my school, including the salutatorian who got into Yale last year... I should think your chances would be very good, except maybe for Cockerell-- I'm assuming they care more about objective stuff like grades?

Of course, UT can be pretty stupid about admissions sometimes. I know this one person who got into every school she applied to-- JHU, Cornell-- except UT. Whatever. But I'm sure you'd be CAPped if they randomly deny you. :P

Well, it sort of depends on what major/school you're trying to get into. If you're just wanting to get into Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences, I'd say your chances are pretty good.

This is the case that it is fairly hard to gauge. I know people on either side that got in/rejected. If I had to guess, I would say you would get Summer Program. Probably 40/60... There is definitely hope, but its stats probably aren't leaning in your favor. This is probably where EC's, good essays, and teacher recs can be the deciding factor. Get as many teacher recs as you can, and if you haven't already submitted your essays, get them reviewed by your English teacher.

Oh and make up some hardships. That's what I had to do, granted I can't say if it was effective or not, because I wasn't top ten, but I was close to it with good standardized test scores so it could have gotten ignored.

I talked to the admissions counselor, and they happily looked over my essays and talked to me about the admissions process. The big problem with them is, they want 0 liability, so unless your top 10%, they will make no statements on the likelihood of your admission. In your case, every little bit helps.

I don't believe having siblings who went here really matter since it is such a huge school(Even if they were Dean Scholars). Unless your are a descendant of the Jackson family(aka Jackson School of Geosciences) then your probably out of luck there.

There's always OU my friend. LOL.

^a quarter funny the first time... not the 8th time

Yeah, it does get old...but it's usually the truth. Consider me trying to help the person out as well with a joke.

Hey, thanks for all the responses. I just found out my counselors will be able to update GPA/Rank before January 15th...which they said they couldn't do, but I called a bluff which is partly why I still haven't applied. My GPA should jump to 3.58ish(weighted) putting me into top25%

Any advice on my essay C? I don't know whether to write about how traveling influenced my education, how sports influenced my education, or how my ethnic background influenced my education...or if I should put a little exaggeration into some hardships

Oh, and I'm applying to Liberal Arts, as of now I don't know what I will be majoring in though...is that a disadvantage?

I'm Lebanese American aswell,

Lebanese American != Minority

!= : does not equal

...huh? I'm putting "White" on my app.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me about my chances?

Any feedback would be really helpful! Also, chances of getting a scholarship?

I have no idea what your asking mjb13... chances for what? You said your already into the school.

Way to hijack my thread..hah

wow that was really dumb of me, leaving out the most important part... I meant getting into Plan II. and sorry about the hijack! i'm kinda new to this :)

if it makes up for it, LFC8, I spoke with an admissions counselor when I visited in the fall. they're very nice, but i think that since they deal with so many applicants interviews and contact with them won't be of much consequence. and yes, they will look at your freshman year, but colleges like to see improvement!
