Thanks! I am hoping my e.c’s will make up for my lowish academics

I just got wait list by UCD… basically crying because I feel hopeless about getting into UCSD, UCLA or even UCSB. :’(

Bio Chem is a really really hard major to apply to. I’d say you have a sort of decent chance, but just coming from someone who has a good gauge of the crazy stats of the applicants this year, I’d say retake the sat or try the act, and definitely work on KILLING the essay so they have no doubts. I’m dying for ucla with a 33/2170, 11 aps, and a 4.65 weighted gpa at school, and I don’t think I’m gonna get it!

it’s march…I can’t reetake/try standardized tests

okay now I am freaking out…I have been wait listed by UCSD and UCD…someone, anyone, tell me there is hope I can get into one ****ing UC! (also applied to LA and SB)

@laxforlife you just looking to see see how many people on CC with tell you how good you are? Ok then let me tell you that you are the best candidate UCLA or UCSB has ever seen and that they would make a grave mistake by not giving you admission.

Seriously who are we kidding? The more I read from people on CC the more I am convinced college admission has become a crapshoot. Kids rejected by UCD admitted by WashU @ St. Louis. Kids one would think are a shoo into UCSC rejected or wait listed by the Banana slugs. Who know what goes through these so called Admission Officers at colleges. My conclusion is they are human and are just as unpredictable as you and me.

The best part is if you are good, you and be what you want to be. Good Luck!!

thanks…and I was just looking for some piece of mind because sure I may think my stats/ec’s/essays are great for these schools but so far they don’t agree…i’m sorry if this is annoying to you but I only have two UC’s left and If i don’t get into either then I have no clue what I’m going to do.

laxforlife, like the others have said, rejection from a lower UC does not necessarily bar you from admission from the upper ones. The admissions office for each one operates independently from each other. They don’t know if the other schools have accepted/rejected you or not.

However, looking at your stats and then your results, it seems like your personal statements might be the problem. Although my test scores are higher than yours, my GPA is much lower and I was accepted to both Davis and SD. I think your personal statements are the problem.

And also, what about your test scores? Have you managed to improve them at all since then?

Although what AceAites said is true, “rejection from a lower UC does not necessarily bar you from admission from the upper ones,” I think in this case it does mean your chances at LA are slim for an acceptance. Your best shot is Santa Barbara, good luck

@AceAites no I sent the same scores. I was wondering about the personal statements thing as the reason but then I reread them. I edited them 5 times with 4 different editors (one was an admissions officer at another univeristy). Although I would not describe them as perfect or amazing, I can’t comprehend how those alone would jeopardize my chances at both schools. I wish I could ask them what I did wrong.

My friend is asking do you think a GPA of 4.6w 3.86 uw, sat 1950, act 30 and president for 3 clubs along with many other ECS would get in?

Remember that the admissions are holistic. The personal statements have a HUGE impact on admission decisions. I talked to an admissions officer at UC Berkeley and he said that, after GPA, the personal statement has the most weight and could actually overshadow a bad GPA, if written well.

Rereading them and editting them for grammar mistakes is good but not enough for an admission officer. They want to really get to know you. They want to feel as if they have met you through your personal statement, to know of your dreams, your aspirations, and what kind of personality you could offer to their college.

I have a feeling that, if you couldn’t get into Davis and SD with your stats and extracurriculars that the essays could have been the problem. If you appeal or are waitlisted and have to write an essay, I would make sure you follow the advice above and make your essays really describe you. Pour out your emotions, your dreams, and your personality into them. Reveal to them who you are.

I wish you the best of luck.

@laxforlife I totally know how you feel :’( I was rejected from ucd on friday and it was my top choice i had a 1760 sat and a 3.83 sat i cant stop crying cause i feel like if i cant get in there then there is no luck with other schools

As I’m reading this I’m baffled. I have far lower SAT scores, gpa, less ap’s, and less ec’s and I have gotten into Davis, UCSD, & Irvine. I also notice how some people have near to perfect sat scores and are told by people that they have low chances to get into UCLA. I now feel very fortunate and thankful to have gotten accepted to these schools despite my choice of impacted major.

Someone please chance my friend

@aceaites I totally understand and In my opinion and the opinion of my counselor and english teacher I did just that in my personal statement. I used a VERY similar essay for UMich and WashU (common app) and I got into UMich and got wait listed at WashU. I’m really socked because I have reread my personal statements everyday now and seriously can’t understand how that can be the reason I got wait listed…I have worked my ass off in and out of school and it is depressing to see people with lower stats/ecs getting in to all of these schools. I am seriously considering calling admissions and asking what is wrong with my essays because if they are that bad then I want to know why and learn to fix them so I don’t keep having this problem.

Can someone please chaaance him? He wants to know!!

“My friend is asking do you think a GPA of 4.6w 3.86 uw, sat 1950, act 30 and president for 3 clubs along with many other ECS would get in?”

@needtoknownow you might want to make your own chancing thread and that is not much info to chance from. if her cares so much he should be doing it himself. decisions come out friday at this point it doesn’t really matter
