Plans: Increase GPA to 3.4/3.5, More service hours, more clubs (and take over, get leadership lol)

So please tell me if I am on the right track, what I should do to improve my chances, and anything else you feel like saying!!

Usually chance threads are for rising seniors but I’ll bite.

Honestly, getting into UW isn’t that difficult. Grab a 2000+ score, keep your GPA at >3.5, and actually try on your essays. You’ll be solid.

Not sure about UCLA at this point for you. I would:

A. Have a clearer focus with your EC’s [not just ‘joined a club,’ but actively took a leadership role.]
B. Get your GPA up to at least a 3.5 [upward trends with increasingly difficult classes look good.]
C. Study for the SAT / ACT
D. If you are going for UC schools, get ready for the SAT IIs. US History and Math II would be your best bets.

Getting into UW won’t be that difficult if you try. UCLA and USC might not be so forgiving. I also live in WA - trust me on UW.

I calculated the GPA I have to get to get as close as I can to a 3.5.
I would have to get a 4.0 in both semesters of junior year, with tough AP classes… Ahh! I’m a little nervous, but I know I can do it… And when I am done with junior year, I might take summer school to make up a grade I messed up on, in Freshman year (I got a C in French II). And if I have more time, I’ll do more summer school, if possible.

If you are an independent learner and if your school allows it, you can probably take AP and honors classes through independent long-distance courses, such as BYU and CTY.

yeah they allow it, but i dont wanna take anything that high-leveled outside of school, it’s already hard and crammed into 1 year, dont want to cram it into 2 months! lol. well anyway, right now im debating on whether to take a 4th year of French, i know it would help, but would it really make that big of a difference…?

As far as I know, two years minimum is required for admittance into UW. Sticking through four years of foreign laguages is definitely a plus, and it certainly can’t hurt. However, are you up for the courseload? If you are, go for it :)

yeah my parent’s motto is “If you try hard, you can get a 4.0”
and at my maximum capacity, i really do not think that is possible, some people were just bred to be good students and get 4.0s, i really dont think i was one of those students… BUT I am one of those students that tries to get there! :D

Ooooh yes. That definitely sounds like Asian parents (I have them too, lol).

If you push yourself, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to get into University of Washington, at least. But be forwarned. Junior year is what makes/breaks a person, and as a rising senior, it definitely was my hardest year yet.

Do you have any idea about UW or are you just talking out of your butt?
As I resident of Washington and having many friends go to UW, I can tell you that all you really need is a 1800+.

I personally know somebody who is in admissions, and they don’t just look at test scores and GPA. If you invest time and effort into your admissions, with a decent GPA and SAT score, there is no reason why you shouldn’t get in.

I think danitykane was talking about with my stats. like to balance everything out so i can get in. since my GPA is low, a 2100 SAT score would make up for it.

it’s going to be a tough junior year, to get into the 3.4-3.5 gpa range, i’ll need to get 4.0s in both semesters… yikes right…and i dont think UW looks at senior year for admissions, so junior year is my last shot!!!
